The loud debate over whether state channel enters and displaces commercial competitors’ interests, reflected in VG’s and P4′s views on NRK.
P4-chief Trygve Rønningen want the most detailed control of NRK-content of NRK.
He advocates that all the central Norwegian radio channels required to play more than 50 percent Norwegian music, have a verbal ratio of 65-80 percent and orders to send further news and current affairs magazines.
Non sponsor posters
VG editor in chief Torry Pedersen set in VG submission questions about it at all need for a separate Norwegian-poster in addition to NRK general statutes. VG is a strong supporter of a government, public service broadcaster with good journalism and editorial freedom.
But the media house will set clear limits to the NRK shall collect income and on what platforms.
– Our perception is that NRK shall not have commercial revenues of its editorial send surfaces at all. Neither sponsor posters, print Torry Pedersen and allows for exceptions only if it is a condition of purchase rights at major events like the football World Cup and the Olympics.
Audio and Video
VG also want NRK narrow its mission to deliver sound and image. NRK.no see today confusingly like commercial online newspapers with “widespread textual news service.” He said that NRK local sites in many cities is clearly superior competitor to local media houses.
– To conduct online newspapers maintained in an excellent way by commercial operators. Otherwise NRK is aware of this, we risk that NRK is so strong compared to other media players, compromising the diversity public broadcaster is set to perform, write Pedersen.
Flow Radio
P4-chief Trygve Rønningen notes that the authorities in the last 20 years spent in content measuring tape to keep the commercial public service broadcasters in the ears. The paradox is that while they have allowed NRK P1 become increasingly similar to commercial competitors with more music, flow and short radio news interruptions.
– The aim seems to be the same as controls programming in commercial channels; the fewest listeners will bump into content they are so little interested in that they change the channel, writes Rønningen in its statement.
White Paper
Rønningen also argue that the main channel NRK P1 must obtain quantitative requirements to content on, among other beliefs, Sami, older, science, culture and children / adolescents.
Input from P4 and VG is given to the Ministry of Culture, which has posted NRK consultation.
The consultation is part of preparing a white paper on NRK. The poster was introduced in 2007 and expresses the state’s requirements and expectations for how NRK should solve its social mission. (AFP)
