In the night you get a second chance – Sande Blad

Such openings called corona holes.

– Coronal hole is dark areas in the sun warm atmosphere here “spurts” solar wind out with twice as high as the rest of the Solar disc. And when such holes rotates towards the center of the sun “aiming” hole against us, says Paul Brekke, senior adviser at the Norwegian Space Centre to ØP Nett.

– And a few days later made the soil of this “wind-gusta “. The solar wind is thus Earth’s magnetic field to “shake” and creating a geomagnetic storm that brings to the extra powerful aurora. Powerful geomagnetic storms pushes Northern Lights farther south so that we can experience it here in southern Norway, says Brekke.

Surprised Northern Lights

The comrades Kurt Evensen and Bjorn Normann jr. Tonsberg is often on World’s End to take night shots.

On Friday they were traveling to take pictures of the windy weather.

– We were not aware that there would be northern lights this night. We were there to catch bølgesus. With long exposure becomes soft lines of rocks, says Bjorn Normann jr. when tb.no talking with him on Saturday morning.

For the two photo happy comrades was a long photo session. They began at 23 o’clock, but was not completed until at 02-03 am on Saturday.

– When we saw the north, so we wondered first about what the green light was. We quickly understood that it was the Northern Lights, but it came in waves. The most powerful light came when we were about to pack up, says Normann jr.

Long shutter speeds

The images you can see in this article are taken with long exposure times.

– We use a very long exposure time. Some of the pictures taken with several minutes long exposure, others are taken by 15-30 seconds. Northern Lights is not so easy to photograph and to prevent stellar motions become stripes, 10-20 seconds often good, he said.

Can be seen in the night

Pål Brekke says that opportunities are present for that one can see this beautiful sight over southern Norway also in the evening and into the night.

– The possibility is certainly true, but there are many factors that come into play so it is difficult to guarantee anything. Anyhow, this is something you should try to get along. It is really beautiful, he said.

Rarely

Brekke says that it is not often you can see the northern lights so clearly over southern Norway as now.

– The possibility has been present a few times this winter, but then not the weather been good enough that it has been possible to see any of it. But this time it will be really great, he says to ØP Nett.

In Sandefjord Northern Lights possibly be seen from small lysforurensede areas Østerøya and Vesterøya and north from the fells on the moraine.
