TV pioneer Johnny Bergh is dead – Bergens Tidende

Bergh grew up in Bergen and joined NRK Television in 1958. He had a decisive influence on the development of Norwegian television entertainment. In his younger years in Bergen he had distinguished himself as a jazz musician and comedy actor. After actress education at the State Theatre college, he had roles at both the National Theatre and the Norwegian Theatre and several movies before he was taken to NRK television as recording head. He was employee number 12 and Bergh was shortly after an important and influential director and producer.

Along with Erik Diesen explored Bergh numerous entertainment formats. They established genres as game shows, talk shows and the still living tradition “Eurovision”. Bergh was also responsible for all the major Nordvision programs.

Through its over 40-year television career has Bergh played a central role in several thousand applications, as for example, “Saturday Night with Erik Bye,” “Counterpoint” , “Double or Nothing”, “This is your life,” “Spellemannprisen,” “Momarkedet” and “Take a Chance”. He had organized concerts with artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, Bill Evans, Jim Reeves and Otis Redding. In the 80s and 90s he was editing and deputy NRK entertainment department, with special responsibility for Saturday entertainment.

Bergh worked closely with profiles that Erik Bye, Harald Tusberg and Knut Bjørnsen, employees Harald Heide-Steen jr. and launched Dan Børge Akerø entertainment names. He has won six times in the international television awards “Rose d’Or” in Montreux for various humor productions, and was until the end of the 90s one of the most important people within Norwegian television entertainment.
