The report, commissioned by the Ministry of Culture, examines whether NRK has such a dominant position that newspapers are threatened and Norwegians risk being cheated of a good media services, writes E24.
The report of the company Economics and Business Administration (SNF) concludes that NRK not steal readers from local and regional newspapers online. Local newspapers and NRK writes about various matters and meet different needs. Therefore, restrictions on NRK give readers an inferior online services, the report said.
– I think the conclusions of this report provides fairly large support for what we have said earlier, ie that NRK is keen to contribute to media diversity, says NRK chief Thor Gjermund Eriksen Aftenposten.
The report is bad news for the media industry, looking for evidence that could prove that NRK weakens competition on the Internet and that the national broadcaster eats into several commercial areas.
