Film Festival honors Toralv Maurstad – NRK

Kosmorama International Film Festival takes place in Trondheim from 2nd to 8th. March. This year the guest of honor is the now 88 years old actor Toralv Maurstad, who has lived his entire life in the spotlight.



From England to Trondheim

Maurstad career started early in Oslo. As a child he played in both movies and the theater with her parents who were also among the leading actors. He was also one of the first from Norway who went to England to get actor education.

– After graduation he started his career at Trøndelag Teater. Years he had in Trondheim, he has since cited as crucial for his continuing work in film and theater world, says festival director Kosmorama, Silje Engeness, NRK.

In the autobiography For a life , from 2012, he draws a picture of life as an actor at Trøndelag Teater.

– It is very rewarding for us that Toralv have a link to Trøndelag and actor environment, says Engeness.

– Changed Norwegian film art

After Trondheim, he went to Oslo again and for many years alternated he between film and stage.

– In the 60′s it was not usual to switch between being actor on stage and on film. He was probably one of those who changed this in Norway, says Engeness.

Maurstad was also one of those who changed the way actors played.

– He portrayed people and youngsters in a close manner. This changed Norwegian film art, says festival director.

Kosmorama has selected three of the films Maurstad played in the 60s to be shown during the festival. These are Line from 1961 Cold tracks from 1962 About Tilla 1963.

Although Maurstad has a long acting career behind him, will probably the younger remember he best Georg Anker Hansen soap series Hotel Caesar. He is also known to have the voice of Louis in Flåklypa Grand Prix.

– Toralv is a versatile actor who is good at dialects and types. He therefore has many strings to play, she says.
