Top Gear team attacked with stones and thrown out of the country – VG

Top Gear crew had to leave the cars stand when police brought them out of the country Thursday.

It was the license plate on Top Gear personality Jeremy Clarkson’s Porsche which was not well received in Argentina, writes the British newspaper Daily Mail.

Clarkson drove namely a Porsche with the number plate “H982 – FKL”, which was perceived as a reference to the Falklands War between Britain and Argentina in 1982

The raging war veterans shall Thursday morning have thrown stones on both the cars and the BBC crew. An Argentine technician allegedly hit and sustained injuries to his face.

Three lavish cars – Porsche Clarkson drove, a Lotus that James May drove a Ford Mustang and Richard Hammond drove – was abandoned wayside after the attack, which occurred near the town of Tolhuin.

The local judge Juan Manuel Romano said according to the Daily Mail that the license plates on the two other cars may be linked to the war.

Ford Mustang had license plates 269, which is not too far off 255 – ie the number of people killed in the war. The lotus had license plates 646, which is close to 649 – the number of damaged Argentines in connection with the war.

The production company behind the popular TV show rejects, however, that the license plates were chosen deliberately.

– Claims that this car was chosen because of the number plate, or that the license plate was replaced, totally untrue, said producer Andy Wilman Thursday.

The production team were heading to Chile – where they are now, three days before the time. They now live in the city of Punta Arenas.

– The British group agreed to leave Tierra del Fuego voluntarily before the deadline was out. Some left with aircraft and other ran, says a local minister, Mariano Plecitý.

It is not the first time Clarkson offends land and people when he is traveling. Previously, he has been criticized for getting racist remarks.
