Norway out of the Oscar race – Aftenbladet.no

Bent Hamer film with Ane Dahl Torp starring was one of the 83 films that were in the race. This was the third time one of his films were selected to represent Norway. In 2003 there was the “Kitchen Stories” and in 2009 “O’Horten” but neither of these went on.

Friday released American Film Academy’s “shortlist” and there was thus not “1001 grams “. But Norway is not completely out yet. Sweden is namely represented by Ruben Östlunds “Tourist” (“Force Majeure”) which has several Norwegian actors in the main roles and partly Norwegian produced.

Which of the nine progressing, will be announced at Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Los Angeles on January 15 next year. That’s when the final nomination list of five films that are made public. One of these is thus priced with an Oscar.



Favourites and surprises

Among the films that go on there are both favorites and surprises. Both the acclaimed Russian film “Leviathan” (Andrei Zvyagintsev), Polish “Ida” (Paweł Pawlikowski) and the Argentine “Wild Tales” (Damián Szifrón) are included.

The other five are “Tangerines” from Estonia organized by Zaza Urushadze, “Corn Island” from Georgia under the auspices of George Ovashvili, “Timbuktu” from Mauritania organized by Abderrahmane Sissako, “Accused” from the Netherlands organized by Paula van der Oest and “The Liberator” from Venezuela directed by Alberto Arvelo.

“The Tourist” with Norwegian Lisa Law Kongsli in a starring role, is also nominated for a Golden Globe in the same category. This ceremony takes place on Sunday 11 January Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles.

Kristofer Hivju, known from the TV series “Game of Thrones” are among the other Norwegian actors in the movie as Norwegian Backlight has helped to produce.

Record number of films

It has not previously been enrolled so many films that year. Malta, Panama and Mauritania for the first time. Thus it is enough especially nice for the latter countries to join on the first time they participate in the Oscar race.

Among other films that went on, the Belgian Dardenne brothers’ “Two days, one night» and “Sorrow and joy” organized by the Danish Nils Malmros. Of the Nordic countries, like Denmark, which has been provided with a film in the foreign language category.

This time it was thus Sweden who drew the longest straw and who will represent the Nordic countries. But “Tourist” can therefore still fall out in the final nomination.

Next year’s Oscars will be sent directly to over 225 countries. (© NTB)
