Singer Joe Cocker’s death – Sunnmørsposten

His agent Barrie Marshall confirmed to the BBC on Monday night that the British blues rock artist is dead.

– Cocker was unique and it will be impossible to fill the void left by him, says Marshall.

Cocker is perhaps best known for the cover song “With a Little Help From My Friends” by The Beatles, which he performed live during Woodstock Festival in 1969. He began his artistic career in pubs and clubs in Sheffield in England in 1960 before he broke through with his version of the Beatles song.

His duet with Jennifer Warnes in 1983, “Up Where We Belong – from An Officer And A Gentleman,” won both Grammy, Golden Globe and Oscar.

Cocker was awarded the British imperieordenen (OBE) in 2007.
