Skuespillerforbundet goes to the case against The Norwegian Theater – the Newspaper.en

(Dagbladet): Norsk Skuespillerforbund take out a writ against the employers ‘ association Spekter and The Norwegian Theater, because they introduce Sunday as fixed spilledag.

Actors at the regular theatres had free every Sunday since 1967, and according to skuespillerforbundet have the collective agreement only opened for exceptions in special cases.

Norsk Skuespillerforbund and The Norwegian Theater was part of the 2014 a temporary agreement for The Norwegian Theater be able to play a limited number of Sundays. This expired in april 2016, but The Norwegian Theatre has now introduced Sunday as the fixed spilledag, with up to two performances each Sunday. It is in violation of the collective agreement, believes the Norsk Skuespillerforbund.

Switch the collective agreement

Forbundsleder Knut Alfs says they have had repeated attempts to resolve this through local negotiations, but that they now see themselves forced to let the Labour court decide the matter.

When the theater suddenly decide that we will play every Sunday during the season break that agreement. We got søndagsfri way back in 1966, when there was a skuespillerstreik. Since then, none of the major theatres had Sunday as fixed spilledag, ” says Alfs to Dagladet.

He says they have opened for prøveordninger with søndagsspilling, through local agreements.

- But if there is to be a permanent arrangement, it must enter in the collective agreement and then the agreement is subject to change. Now they have just begun to put up performances on Sundays, ” he says.

Alfs asserts that stevingen not about whether or not they should play on Sundays or not, but that the collective agreement does not allow for the søndagsspilling as a fixed scheme.

- No conflict locally

Erik Ulfsby, theater manager at the det Norske Teatret, believes that the Range stays completely within the collective agreement.

It is of course entirely in order for us Skuespillerforbundet central will have the Labour to clarify the prinsippielle. Here locally, there is however no conflict. It is not so that the actors at det Norske Teatret is now playing up against two shows every Sunday. On average, they play in excess of three Sundays per calendar year, says Ulfsby to Dagladet.

He adds that the actors have been given free every Saturday morning, while they normally work from 11.00 to 15.00 at the other theaters.

Ulfsby believe they have found a good solution.

- Everyone knows that, for example, the number of a family event clock, five a day, when one has children, is not easy. Now we have a scheme that gives the actors more free in the weekend than they had before, which increases the revenue to the theatre so that we can hire more, and that gives the audience a markedly better offer says Ulfsby.

- else

Skuespillerforbundet has hired lawyer Christopher Hansteen from lawfirm Grette to bring the case to court. He is clear that he believes The Norwegian Theater violates the collective agreement.

– Søndagsfri is an important good for the actors as for the other occupational groups. When the employer breaks the 50-year practice by unilaterally introducing a fixed arrangement with søndagsforestillinger, Skuespillerforbundet no other choice than to take legal steps to protect members ‘rights,” says Christopher Hansteen in a press statement.
