the Series is about the 9-year-old Selma, who has been living with the strict nabodama Ruth since her parents died when she was 3 years old.
Secretary general of the Norwegian Fosterhjemsforening, Tove Wahlstrøm, tells to Our Country that they have received inquiries from several concerned foster parents. After having contacted NRK she got to see the first five episodes.
the Criticism is absolutely justified. It is a nice christmas carol, but I react strongly on the representation of both fostermoren and of child welfare, says Wahlstrøm. The association encourages foster parents to watch the series together with the children.
The advent calendar is always talked about at school and between children. We fear that this may make the foster child unsafe in their own situation and provide the basis for bullying and unpleasant questions aimed at the already vulnerable children.
Editor Hildri Gulliksen in NRK Super says fostermoren only in a small part of the story, and that it quickly moves into a eventyrlandskap where you understand that Selma is half-santa:
We believe children down in quite a young age are able to understand when something is adventure. We have to still be able to tell you fairy tales based on reality.
