Told not prinsesse Ragnhild on the diagnosis: – We saw in their eyes that life was over – Theend

the ship owner and krigsveteran Erling Lorentzen (93) is in these days the current of the new biography “Erling Lorentzen – Will and resistance”, written by Stig Arild Pettersen.

Where have the 93-year-old even told about how life was in the 40′s during the war, and about the important resistance he and his comrades contributed.

In connection with the launch, Lorentzen allowed themselves to be interviewed by VG Weekend. It is, however, not only the war, the book focuses on. 93-year-old was in fact married to princess Ragnhild until she died in 2012.

In the interview reveals the veteran several things about the couple’s relationship. Besides taking up how hard it was to get support from Ragnhilds parents, king Olav V and crown princess Märtha, he talks about how the last time together with his life’s great love was.

Did not know about the diagnosis

- We were told that she had six months left, and it went exactly six months until she died, ” he says candidly to the VG Weekend.

“His Majesty the King has, with great sadness received the message that Princess Ragnhild, mrs Lorentzen has passed away. The princess died in his home in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 16. september 2012 kl. 09.45 local time. the 93-year-old Lorentzen, who in the last four years have been a widower, tells us that they in the beginning didn’t tell the princess about his own cancer diagnosis. It in fear that she would give up, and that the last time her on earth would be characterized by adversity.

When she celebrated her last birthday in June 2012, he would still tell her that. Three months later she was dead.

It was very empty. Time with disease was difficult. But we saw in their eyes that life was over and that what happened was the best for her then, ” he says candidly.

Had to escape the country

Princess Ragnhild, mrs Lorentzen was born the 9. June 1930 at The Royal Palace in Oslo. At an extraordinary Minister after the princess’s birth, announced to King Haakon VII that the princess’s name would be Ragnhild Alexandra.

As a youngster she grew up at Skaugum. The idyll in which, however, was quickly interrupted when the germans invaded Norway on the 9. april 1940. To avoid being taken into custody by the occupation forces left the royal family, the government and the Parliament, Oslo with the train.

By Elverum boasts crown Prince Olav teams with his family. Crown princess Märtha and the three children, princess Ragnhild, princess Astrid and prince Harald, fled to safety across the border to Sweden.

After a few months in Sweden traveled kronprinsessen and children on to the united STATES by boat. Here they lived until 1945, when peace finally came to Norway.

- Deeply missed

It was the 15. may of 1953 that the princess married Erling Lorentzen, after much on and but from her parents. Since moved to the Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. The couple had three children, Haakon Lorentzen, born 23. august 1954, Ingeborg Ribeiro, born 27. February 1957 and Ragnhild Lorentzen, born 8. may 1968.

Princess Ragnhild was often referred to as a very private and modest person. As a housewife in Brazil, she lived a far more anonymous existence through the years than its siblings.

It was only at the round birthdays and other events in the royal family that she appeared to the public.

To Dagbladet in 2014 told Erling Lorentzen that he was often known on the missed after the princess.

- It is enough for me, as it is for many others who are experiencing it to lose some that are a close – a deep loss. But one retains the many good memories that were created together. After 60 years, so it is hard to pull off what I remember best. Our everyday was good, and characterized by the positive in life. I have only good to say about our time together, he told.
