SKIEN/BODØ: Students from the Puffin school in Skien competed Saturday in the scandinavian finals of First Lego League – the world’s largest kunnskapsturnering for children and young people. The team at Puffin Smart Learners won no award, but was nominated for two.
Skienslaget made a solid effort and ended with the nomination of both the Marketing and Samarbeidsprisen, but did not reach all the way up this time.
After their victory in the regional final in Skien, the trip went to Bodø and the sixteenth scandinavian finals of First Lego League (FLL).
After a few hectic finalerunder, it was finally The Lego Reefs from Billund, Denmark, which was the best overall. The team was crowned the FLL Champions. They will thus have the honor to represent Scandinavia in the global final which will be held in St. Louis in the USA next year, says the organizer.
Over 900 teams from various scandinavian cities have since the middle of september laid down countless working hours to be able to represent their regions in the scandinavian final. After the regional finals was only 47 teams again, ready to take the city of Bodø.
- Great læringsvilje
Even if the team from Skien not walking away with any awards, is it a great achievement to be nominated for two awards.
– Through FLL and Statoil’s talent Tomorrow’s heroes, we want to arouse interest for research, science and technology. Talents from Skien has shown a great læringsvilje and put a lot of effort both at school and in your free time. So created talents, and hopefully many of those will be tomorrow’s engineers and scientists, ” says Cathrine Instebø, sponsorsjef in Statoil.
team spirit and respect
Lunde Smart Learners consists of students from three different classes on the seventh step. The team says they have worked well across the classes and has now become even better acquainted with each other. The gang from the Ski went off with full pot of team spirit and respect in the regional finals, and have worked intensely to go with the victory in Bodø.
the Tournament is a collaboration between the FIRST Scandinavia and Statoil’s heroes of Tomorrow. The purpose is to create interest in technology and the sciences through to present real issues that can inspire children and young people to choose utdanningsretninger in the sciences.
