– This is an initiative from my side that has exclusively been meant positively assure Justice Minister Anders Anundsen (FRP) to NRK.
Dagbladet writes Wednesday that Attorney General requested a meeting with Director Kjersti Loken Stavrum Norwegian Press Association, after Stavrum had made critical comments about Anundsen relation to the press.
the letter has attracted reactions from both the press and the opposition.
– the desired dialogue with Stavrum
Anundsen said he sent the letter because he wanted an informal chat with Stavrum the push for freedom.
– she has been very clear that she will have a clearer Minister the area, and I think it’s important to listen to such advice, says Justice Minister told NRK.
– Left leader Trine Skei Grande believes you are trying to gag a critic?
– No, quite the contrary. This is an attempt to clarify what I actually stands for in terms of free press. I am an extremely strong supporter of a free and critical press, and it is an absolutely fundamental prerequisite for any democracy.
– Could have been clearer
Anundsen admits there are formulations in the letter that could have been different.
– it could have been clearer that it is intended as an informal invitation to dialogue but I have well really just find me in everything a minister writes, can be interpreted in the best and worst opinion.
General Arne Jensen in Norwegian Editors’ Association told Dagbladet that he thinks it’s unnatural for Stavrum to meet the Minister of Justice to a closed meeting in his office, but Anundsen mean it does not matter where they meet.
– If we meet over a cup of coffee in my office or at her office or at a cafe for that matter, has secondary importance to me.
