Double Victory for “Våtdraktmysteriet” – journalist

Skup award 2015 goes to Anders Fjellberg and Tomm W. Christiansen Dagbladet, for “Våtdraktmysteriet”.

The same project also received International Reporter award for good international news earlier in the evening.

– This is about one of Europe’s major challenges, refugees from Syria. The police would not give up, would Dagbladet solve the mystery. The case is unprecedented conveyed, and is known as one of the best that has been written about the ongoing refugee crisis, and has given international attention tent camp in Calais. It should assertiveness and ingenuity to reach the finish with such a job – and there will be honor, glory and SKUP price of! said jury chairman Bernt Olufsen.

– incredibly large

– This is so incredibly big. It is the biggest journalistic award you can get in Norway and means a lot to me, says Fjellberg to journalist after the award is handed out.

We ask what he thinks about journalism method after he and colleague Tomm W. Christiansen began using DNA to solve the mystery. Fjellberg say they are working on with new cases and uses the methods needed.

– For me and the newspaper this is absolutely fantastic. This was not something we expected, says Christiansen. He adds that for him as a press it extra fun to win the award.

– It’s great to be recognized as part the journalist team.

“Våtdraktmysteriet”

This is why this year’s winning project:

In the autumn and winter 2014/15 there have been two mysterious likfunn, one at Lista in Norway, the second on a beach in the Netherlands. The bodies were found in identical wetsuits, acquired simultaneously by the same customer in a sports shop in the French city of Calais on the English Channel.

The leader of the dig group in Dagbladet, Arve Bartnes , picks up notice in Lister24 about likfunnet Lista 2 January 2015. This leads to a couple of news articles in Dagbladet. Soon it turns out that an identical wetsuits sitting on a man who was found dead outside the Netherlands in October. Both are purchased on 7 October 2014.

Four diplomas

Several of the candidates had enough hopes to go all the way and hijack the Skup award this year. But a diploma is a good consolation.

Jury President Olufsen confirmed that the last week had been fantastic for burrowing journalism, with Aftenposten and Panama Papers spearheaded. But too much attention on the royal family and the City Government policy further dignities.

– A highly structured and documented work, disclosure of the tracks perpetrators have left, said Olufsen and boasted also of the graphical presentation.
