History of fire in southern Norway – Clear Voice

Culture

Erik Skjoldbjærg has made films of the book “Before I burn down” from 2010. The story is inspired by one of the most famous cases of pyro conjures in Norway. In 1978 there were some who started many fires in southern Norway. Pyro Maner are people who set fire to things just because they want to see fire.

Skjoldbjærg seem story in the book is incredibly interesting.

– The son of a fire chief sneaks around and starting fires. And it stops the not there. He is also helping firefighters. So he gets a kind of hero status. For a story! he said.

The director says that he has forged part to create more action in the film. And he understood early on that parents are important for the film.

– I hope the film asks questions such as: How long should you wear on your child? Is it possible to give drop it – and how do you really? says Skjoldbjærg.

Skjoldbjærg wanted to film fires most similar as in reality. Therefore, the film “Pyro Manen» filmed on Finsland outside Kristiansand. That was where the fires occurred in the 1970s. He says that the whole village was affected by the filming. It lasted two months.

– We came to the village and would start any fires. So we put an ad in the local newspaper. Where we asked if people had some buildings they wanted to get burned down. We got surprisingly many answers, says Skjoldbjærg.

The director got help from the fire department with the fires he was filming. The film had 30 million in the budget.

– It was cheaper for us to make fires on the old way. But a fire is always dangerous. When the wind turned, we had to change the scene. Everyone had to move. Often we had to have ointment in the face to withstand the intense heat, he said.

It’s Trond Nilssen playing pyromaniac Day. He is widely praised by Skjoldbjærg.

– Once he stayed too long inside a burning house. I was afraid that it was going to go wrong. He came out when the house was completely ablaze. He was all right, and I got some pretty cool images, he said.

It was natural that Nilssen got the lead role in the movie.

– When he auditioned, there was no doubt. He matched perfectly. But I had to wait for him. He sat there in prison, says the director.

Nilssen set a year in prison after beating up another man, writes the newspaper Dagbladet.

Skjoldbjærg is impressed Nilssen. He believes that Nilssen manages to immerse themselves completely into the role.

– He can scare you in a moment. And then break your heart the next moment. Trond is one of the best actors I’ve seen in Norway, he said.

Other actors in the film are Agnes Kittelsen, Henrik Rafaelsen, Per Frisch and Liv Bernhoft Osa. The film will open theatrically on April 22. (© NTB)
