Danish reserve rescued Norwegian epic Beatles – Aftenposten

Just before the scheduled start of recording was the Oscar-nominated Kon-Tiki-directors Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg from the project. They were hailed by Hollywood to create the fifth Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

Manufacturer Jørgen Storm Rosenberg thrown around and called several directors in Norway, to see if they would take over the project with a budget of over 50 million. Gradually, the quest to Denmark.

Known not to book before the

– I knew Lars Saabye Christensen as a writer, but had never heard anything about the project or the book Beatles. My first thought was that the head would not go, and I told them to find a Norwegian director. However, the manufacturer did not give up, and asked me to read the book, tells Flinth.

Having plowed through the more than 700 pages, he was convinced.

– I was very affected. The story is universal. It takes you no matter if you grew up in Oslo, Copenhagen, Stockholm or Berlin, says Dane.

– It’s all about finding her first boyfriend, friendship, wanted to start a band, try to pretend someone you are not right and sound like Paul McCartney. Kim Karlsen person was something I certainly could feel again and I saw clearly a good movie material. I think I am as Danish to come in and work with it, without the great fear of physical contact Norwegian counterparts possibly would have felt. Beatles’s a national treasure that everyone in Norway has a relationship with, he adds.

Do not suffer long list

Sunday he and the team behind the film on the red carpet Haugesund in conjunction with the world premiere and the opening of this year’s edition of The Norwegian Film Festival.

It bothers him a little that he was obviously one of fairly quite a few director’s name manufacturer had on the block.

– I heard later from several colleagues in Denmark that also they were asked to take the auspices responsibility. It took that as a sign that the manufacturer and the people behind the film really has been thoroughly worked. There is nothing unusual in that, at least outside of Scandinavia. Internationally, it’s pretty common to target more relevant director candidates in parallel, said Flinth.

– did you feel that you were a number far down on the list of those who were asked

– I have possibly been, but I’ve never felt that way. One time I was called up on an advert was my answer that I was very busy. I asked if they could call to several colleagues that I named. The answer back was: “We have called them all together!” He grins.

– When I was last on the list, I hope anyway that I have done a good job, he adds.

Legal writ

The following work on the film also arose a conflict between the manufacturer and the two renegade directors, which almost ended in court. According to producer Storm Rosenberg was regissørduoens subpoena for court ultimately resolved in an amicable manner.

Movie Flinth says he never was part of the conflict and that he will not comment on what happened.

– Rønning and Sandberg has always been very supportive to me. After they gave up the baton they have helped with manuscript reading, participated in the shooting and seen dagtagninger. They have seen clips and come with comments along the way. There have been a luxury, and they have given very qualified input, he says.

– Had to change and simplify

The Flinth, Storm Rosenberg and writer Axel Hellstenius is clear that the had never been able to get film of the Beatles if they had adhered strictly to Saabye Christensen’s extensive boktekst.

– We could surely have made a TV series, but to push the action from 700 pages in the defined film format would been impossible, says Hellstenius.

– We have zoomed in on Kim Karlsen’s history, and we have simplified and twisted at some of the figures. It was absolutely necessary to make a film out of it, says Flinth.

One of the techniques is to focus the entire story of the film in a year, namely 1968, when the Beatles were about to be dissolved – not a whole adolescence as the book is about.

Before film job in Norway he is known to have made two feature films and a TV series about figure Arn from author Jan Guillou bokunivers.

Right to school from the premier party

Louis Williams stars as Kim, while Havard Julius Jackwitz, Halvor Tangen Schultz and Ole Nicolai Myrvold Jørgensen fill in the other roles in her peer group who dream of establishing a Beatles -inspired band. None of them had film experience prior work with the Beatles.

– This has tremendous taste for more, and I am more than happy to ready for new movie roles, Williams says that Monday morning travels straight from the premiere party for the first day of school in high school .

– Daily time travel

Susanne Boucher, who is Kim’s great love Cecilie, had a starring role in the critically acclaimed and award winning youth film keepers to Liverpool in 2010. She was among other things help to receive the coveted Crystal Bear for Best Children and Youth Film Festival in Berlin.

– When I was 12-13 years, and held including acceptance speech for 1200 people in Berlin in English. Recording the Beatles were quite different and much larger than the first film. Goalkeepers happening in the present. This was the daily journey through time where we got to the set and put on us clothes and a mentality of the 1960s, she said.

Boucher read Beatles already 11 years old, but much of the action went over your head on her.

Picked away “speech impediment”

– Very few young people are listening today to the music of the Beatles, and Lars Saabye Christensen’s book came out 30 years ago. Do you think the movie you’ve made will captivate your peers?

– Certainly! We take up divorce, insecurity, love, early attachment and other things that are and have been relevant for youth for many years. That it is in a different time doing enough story even more interesting and captivating. Young people who see it will peek at the clothing, hair, billboards, surroundings and notice that we are actually talking something different than what most people do today, she replies.

As part of the preparations got the boys in the film an entire day with author Lars Saabye Christensen, where he meticulously picked out all the modern “speech impediment” as cool, yes, chill, Smud and other words that were not in use in the Currently the film is from.

– Many said ball with thin l, and some said chicken sjylling and cinema sjino, she laughs.

The film has extraordinary Norwegian premiere on August 29 .
