Bente Hartvedt Ringstad continues as director of the DNS. She admits that the last six months have been tough.
– not least because this has lasted over a long period. But I know what I stand for and have said, so I’ve been relatively confident that the conclusion would be that it was, says Ringstad to BT when we meet her in the theater corridors after the press conference at the house is finished.
17 came with criticism
the investigation of the director’s management style, initiated by the Board on DNS and conducted by Toril Wik Dialog lawyers, concludes that there is no fear culture on DNS, including bullying and harassment – as previously kommunikasjionssjef Find Bjorn Tonder described it in a letter to the board this fall.
But it is pointed out in the report that some employees do not have a fully satisfactory psychosocial work environment.
29 former and current employees of DNS was interviewed as a basis for the report. 17 of those promoted negative criticism against the director. Ringstad will not be intimidated by this.
Will restore confidence
– five of which are no longer employed at the theater. I would still like to emphasize that I do not think it’s okay that people are not doing well at work. It’s not nice to be the one who will cause this. But this is a very complex picture. I’ll do what I can to ensure that confidence can be rebuilt at the theater.
– Do you take self-criticism for something?
– Of course. I want to avoid offend or hurt anyone. I go into this in order to do a good job.
Would not quitting
Ringstad has throughout the process focused on the director job, but admits she had a break this year. Strains were too big. But now she is back in the director chair for full and ready to implement measures that the working environment at the house should be the best possible.
– Rated you ever quit on DNS?
– No, answer Ringstad cash.
Do not talked to Tonder
she talks about the great support she has received from theater Agnete Haaland and chairman Siren Sundland. And that there have been many kind words from great colleagues.
She is particularly pleased that the serious allegations of Tonder was debunked in the report.
– I’ve known all along that these has not led to true.
– Why he wrote what he wrote?
– you’ll have to ask Tonder about. I have not talked to him, says Ringstad.
– This is the same as fear culture
Tønder takes no self-criticism. He stands for every word he wrote about Ringstads leadership style.
– I have not read the report, but realize that there are several on the house who stated that they do not have a sound psychosocial environment. In my ears it’s the same as a fear culture, said Tonder, who points out that there are directors and theater director who has hired auditor will.
He points out that DNS conducted a working environment survey in 2012 and a harrowing work trial in 2014. Both processes concluded that DNS management should have full focus on improving the working environment. Nevertheless concludes the new report with the DNS ‘procedures for conflict management is deficient. Freedom of climate and the psychosocial work environment is not satisfactory for certain employees.
– The point is: This should Agnete Haaland and Siren Sundland have sorted out long ago. I also made them aware several times that the workers at the house are hurting because of the working methods of Ringstad. They have had many opportunities to settle internally. Why should it go better now, ask Tonder.
