The Canadian Denis Villeneuve is directing. This is the third film the two are collaborating on.
The two have previously made “Enemy” and “Prisoners’ together, reports Variety. The film will be produced by Gyllenhaal own production Nine Stories in collaboration with Bold Films. Also Nesbø and his agent Niclas Salomonsson is on the production side.
When “Son” came out in 2014 was Leonardo di Carprio speech as both lead actor and producer. Also Channing Tatum has been in the picture – and was even in Oslo to talk to Jo Nesbø about a collaboration. Tatum said to have been interested in both directing and starring, but fate has led to superstar Gyllenhaal.
He is known from movies like “Brokeback Mountain,” “Donnie Darko,” “Zodiac,” ” The Good Girl “and” The Day After Tomorrow. ” 35-year-old sister of actress Maggie Gyllenhaal.
“Son” took Nesbø a break from Harry Hole. But the action is still added to a dark and violent Oslo.
The protagonist of “Son” is Sonny Lofthus, 30-year-old, who has served the last 12 years of his life in prison convicted of crimes he did not have committed. He confesses others offenses in exchange for drugs. One day he manages to run away from prison and go on a quest for revenge.
– I have enough had both father and son-issues and revenge plots before, but never made it as far as now, said Nesbø NTB when the book was released.
Previously scruffy ‘the Snowman’ made film with Michael Fassbender in the lead role of police detective Harry Hole. The film was recorded in Norway in winter and will premiere in October 2017.
