The Swedish writer, literary critic and publisher Gabi Gleichmann, who currently lives in Oslo, said this to NRK:

– Everything she writes is documented. She is a superb stylist, but allows the voices of those she writes about have focus. She is like an orchestra leader who allows others tones sound. She is unique and innovative, says Gleichmann.

The announcement of the Nobel Prize in literature

Literature journalist at NRK, Siss Vik, think it’s great that a price for the first time in several years going to a nonfiction writer.

– She began her career as a journalist and has learned to write literary journalism. Her project has been interviewing ordinary Russians, or former Soviet citizens, about how they felt about the war in Afghanistan and on how they experienced the Soviet era. She gives a voice to those who are excluded. It’s a very idealistic and great project, says Siss Vik.

At Kagge publishers, who have released two of Aleksijevitsjs books in Norwegian, stood cheering on the ceiling when Swedish Academy announced the winner.

– We’re drinking champagne, we are very happy and think this is very amazing, says Publishing Director Anne Gaathaug.

Kagge publishers discovered the Belarusian writer during a literary festival in Reykjavik in Iceland a few years back.

– There we tip from Aleksijevitsjs Swedish publisher to join and listen to a Belarusian lady who writes powerful stories. We in Kagge publishing was immediately in love with this author, says Anne Gaathaug.

– It is easy to forget that this is documentary material, but with very strong measures, she adds.

“Elite Price”

Literature Prize has been criticized for being a kind of elite Price that people are not so concerned .

The choice of winner was criticized last year when the price went to Frenchman Patrick Modiano . Although Modiano considered one of France’s most important contemporary writers, and has a far authorship behind him, was only a small number of books translated into Norwegian.

Thus, he took both literary critics and publishing his in Norway, Cappelen Damm, bit by surprise. The publisher got the sudden rush to publish several of his books.
