Gunhild A. Stordalen (37) has real reason to smile. The treatment this summer was successful. Meanwhile, she rejoice tremendous success in Sweden.

– Have gone well

and now processing over and Stordalen says that it has gone well.

– the body has gotten a lot of beating with chemotherapy and immunosuppressive drugs, but I have gotten myself through the technical part of the treatment, in which stem cells are placed back in the bone marrow. Now I’m in a rehabilitation period, which currently has gone well.

But after setback last year, she will not take nothing for granted.

– Petter and I have become accustomed to to live with uncertainty. We are happy for every day we get, but fingers crossed that the effect should persist this time.

Gunhild Stordalen: – The disease is back

Swedish success

When VG chatting with her, she is most concerned about the great success in Sweden, and of course the EAT, the organization she has built up in order to focus on how the globe will manage to make enough healthy food for a growing population in a sustainable way.

– It’s a bit surreal, but very nice that so many Swedes heard program. I am not so familiar in Sweden and there were many impressive people on this year’s list, therefore it is especially fun that so many have wanted to listen to my message, she said.

The enthusiasm is explained that Sveriges Radio has announced listener figures for its most popular program, “summer in P1″, where 50 of Sweden’s foremost celebrities have been presenters – and Gunhild Stordalen.

One million Swedes listened to her during the broadcast in the summer, while thrones she heads the list of which application has been listening mostly in retrospect; over 500,000. Her program is also at the top of broadcasts that are shared in social media, with 24,000 shares.

– Wonderful

Programme Director Bibi Rödöö in “Summer in P1″ thinks she’s explanation of why Stordalen plays so well an:

– I think it is because she talked exciting about environmental issues and about their EAT involvement and that she was so open about the serious disease she has. Listeners experienced both being hit in the stomach by what she is through and being klimaklokere says Rödöö VG.

In the program told Stordalen about the plague that hit her in October 2014: How it began with pain in the knees and how it spread to the entire body.

– I’ll never forget her skin

She also told about the backdrop; that one of the patient encounters she objected to the most during his medical training, was the encounter with a dying young woman with just systemic sclerosis.

– I’ll never forget her skin; it was thick as a rhinoceros armor. As doctors we had nothing to offer, there was no effective treatment and she lay there and waited for death.

So she experienced the skin of his own chest began to thicken.

– it was then I understood. And it turned out that I had been the most aggressive and deadly variants of systemic sclerosis.

After the shock she sat and the man sat down and talked. And searched all expertise in the world.

They then she would die if they did not do anything. And acted quickly: In Utrecht in the Netherlands performed the experimental stem cell treatment of systemic sclerosis patients.

– Selected openness

She told the program about death and that she no longer feared it. But she also told about life and love – and his first meeting with her future husband.

– You handed much of yourself in the Swedish radio program?

– I have chosen to be open about my illness and when I first agreed to do this program right before I was going to be entered for a new transplant, it fell naturally to bring. I understand of course that people wonder how it goes when you’re hit by a deadly disease.

Gunhild Stordalen is very grateful that she has the parents she has. In the radio program she describes her mother and father in a beautiful way: How they came to the couple’s wedding in Marrakech in 2010, the mother with voice cards in a plastic bag, the father in tuxedos and the tired backpack he bikes to work with on the back.

– I hope in a few words could tell how good people my parents are. He went with the bag because there could be a need for extra clothes at night.

Mom

And the mother she has fought with the essential things:

– Mum has asked me to stop saying publicly that I shall save the world. She’s right, but at the same time, she has flaws. Someone must make the attempt; there is strength in the belief that the impossible is possible and the setting of unrealistic goals.

To have a life-threatening diagnosis has made her even more targeted:

– Ensuring that efforts EAT will continue after my life; Now there are so many amazing talented and dedicated people, companies and organizations, that I am no longer afraid to die. In the beginning was perhaps EAT depend on me, but now I need EAT more than they need me.

First off

The winter 2015 was treating her very well and she reached his goal to attend EAT conference in the spring of last year. Everything looked very nice.

But then came back fall, autumn 2015. In April she began anew chemotherapy and removed stem cells from the spinal cord for the second time.

in the midst of this period, she participated in the EAT conference and lined up in Swedish radio.

– What now: You are the first or one of the first with your disease that has undergone such stem cell transplant twice?

– there is no one knows, because the doctors did not have anything to compare with. I feel a bit like a pilot project; it has both good and bad sides, but I have no choice. Thank goodness for that medicine is making progress. There I am on, could pave the way for many more to come by – and can help people save lives.

Even though she now is the rehabilitation of a very dangerous disease, does not mean she sit quietly and hope. She engages:

Dyrsku’n

This year Dyrsku’n Seljord 150 years and she will attend the opening on September 9.

– I’ve always been a bit småmuggen on my parents, because they never took me on Dyrsku’n. I’ma peasant girl from the country and over moderately interested in animals and locally produced food. When EAT allowed to participate, we could not say no; we can not solve the world matutfordringer without talking directly with those who produce the food. Dyrsku’n is one of the important things we do in Norway this year. And something I of course priority.

– Usually there are cows, country artists and perhaps an agriculture minister who is drawing card there?

– There will 80,000 people to Dyrsku ‘n: It is one of the finest venues where parents take the kids and the younger generations are actually viewing where food comes from. The large distance between the table and earth is a growing concern, but we see that more and more, especially young people, are more and more concerned about what they eat and where their food comes from. EAT work for us to produce healthy food in an environmentally sustainable manner. Then it is important to reach both to those who make and eat food.
