Movie Review: ‘The BFG – Big friendly giant “- VG

A good-natured movie about big dreams, lonely souls and a giant with a warm heart.

ADVENTURE

“SVK – Big friendly giant”

USA / ENGLAND. 6 years. Director: Steven Spielberg.

With: Mark Rylance, Ruby Barnhill. Penelope Wilton.

Roald Dahl’s children’s classic “The BFG – big friendly giant” from 1982 is a fertile imagination with frightening undertones.

In the cinematic adventure tells Steven Spielberg safe hands is the story still engaging and resilient, but a bit too “safe” and laborious to completely attach the magic grip.

Sometimes getting the film almost an episodic character, who almost had suited up better as a TV series.

But the film has a great and friendly giant that secure grip on us from the first time he discovers little Sophie on orphanage porch a late night hour. Spielberg used the British character actor Mark Rylance in his film “Bridge of Spies” (Oscar for Rylance!), And has hit the jackpot by placing him in the role of the little whimsical, funny and melancholy giant; dream catcher that can replace nightmare with sweet dreams of a lonely little kid.

Dahl’s novel – and Spielberg fimatisering of it – is inspired by fairy tales about giants and trolls, a dash Dickens and a dose Peter Pan. It’s about lonely souls, be it small or large, humans or other creatures.

And it’s about dreams – those that can create turmoil and fears – and those who can give you the strength to fix existence .

that’s why the meeting between the small orphanage girl Sofie and giant as “stealing” her from the sad orphanage both uplifting and sometimes quite touching. They are both lonely, but by joint efforts so they are able to fight for both the Queen and country.

The bad guys are the second giants, the huge children eaters who incessantly pester Sophie gentle giant friend, and who do everything to put teeth in Sophie herself. In the film version is the probably less threatening than in quivering Dahl descriptions from the book, despite the fact that they sound like a bunch of gaping hooligans.

Simple Scenes are both touching, beautiful – and fun. A seance where Sophie include on your dream hunting is a gem that will appeal to all the senses with its exuberance, color and John Williams music that nice support.

seance at the end of the film, where Sophie and giant taking into dreams of queen Elizabeth, presented some cheerful units. There are small details in lines and images that evoke a pleasant grin.

The film can certainly seem somewhat winded in a while, but it has some elements that affect warm. A movie that is suitable and intended for children, a film about a fight you would like to bring home for inhaling fine dreams in your head.
