Wondering what Australia really doing in Eurovision? – Side2

VIENNA (Page2): This year marks sixty years ago Eurovison rolled over TV screens for the first time and fifty-five years since Norway submitted its first contribution with Nora Brockstedt and song “Voi Voi”.

We’ve all become accustomed to that most European countries send in their contributions, but this year is, however, a somewhat unexpected participant on the wallpaper.

The superstar Guy Sebastian , best known for the song “Battle Scars” will in fact act on behalf of Australia, in conjunction with the 60th anniversary of the song contest.

Many immigrants

– Australia is a country with many European immigrants, and that’s why the interest for Eurovision so enormous. We think this is the best entertainment program in the world, says Paul Clarke, head of the Australian delegation.

The 20 percent of the Australian population was born overseas, and many heaths therefore on the land that their ancestors originally came from. In Australia follows as many as three million TV viewers at Eurovision.

And it is because of the enormous interest, as well as the country’s historical attachment to Europe, that Australia thus have been invited to participate in the anniversary edition of Eurovision.

Now it seems Guy Sebastian it is very big to get the opportunity to be part of the circus.

– No one had heard of me before, but now I get stopped by people on the streets pointing and saying that I’m the guy from Australia. It’s very fun, he says.

Moreover, he points out that it is currently a good environment among participants from different countries.

– I actually have not felt so much on competition. We participants have become good friends, and it’s wonderful good mood backstage, says Sebastian.



Getting select countries

Australia goes directly to the final in Eurovison, along with Britain, France, Spain, Italy, Germany and last year’s winner, Austria. These countries do not have to struggle to get through the semifinals.

Guy Sebastian is also selected from among the top five in the betting companies, with very good odds. About Australia would end up taking the top spot with home, they however do not organize Eurovision in homeland next year.

Australia will then have to pick another country in Europe they will work with, while the Australian broadcasting channel SBS bring the bill.

However, there have been rumors that the Australian shooting star has fallen ill, and the illness can put a stop for an Australian victory. Guy Sebastian, however, takes the disease with devastating calm.

– I’ve been a little sick, but I’m not particularly worried. Sometimes I sing actually better when I’m sick. My voice may sound better, he says.
