Steinmann was 19 years old when he and his brother Harry and 530 other Norwegian Jews were stowed aboard troopship Donau in Oslo a gray November day in 1942.
Of the 302 men, 188 women and 42 children on board, there were only five men who came home alive. Steinmann was one of them.
– school texts do not tell the big, said Steinmann in an interview with NTB in 2012.
