Little Steven: – Conflicts destroyed for new “Lily Hammer” -season – VG

Steven Van Zandt believe conflict between Netflix and NRK helped to impede a future life for Frank Tagliano.

– There was a lot of turmoil and loss of communication, says Van Zandt when VG met him at The Thief in Oslo.

He starred as Frank Tagliano in NRK success “Lily Hammer” and published last week a message on Twitter in which he declared the series dead.

It rejected later NRK and Rubicon, who told VG that they keep the door open for new seasons.

Feels like the end

– Why did you like it Tweet?

– I had been asked the question so often: When is the next season? I’ve known for some time that there is going to be a new season. I just had an instinct about it, from the way things went, and how complicated business was. I felt really that the series had come to an end three months before the third season ended, says Van Zandt.

He added that they were not let into a definitive end in the third season, so they could take up the series if they wish it.

– But it feels like the end, he said.

Complicated

– Last November, you said that you wanted to make new episodes?
>

– I still do that, I could have done the show forever. We’ll never know exactly what happened. It was a very complicated business.

– So tweet was not a negotiation initiatives from you?

– No, no, not at at all. It just ended. Complication by keeping business partners together just fell apart, and no one felt that there was enough worth to hold it together.

– it’s about money that you pulled out of “Lily Hammer” project?

– No. I do not think we will ever get to know that, apart from the obvious: that the audience was not large enough. It is obvious that the series has had a smaller audience than the individual wanted. One must look at it and say: Why? What are the reasons for that? There was a lot of tension between business partners as well as the artistic partners. There was a lot of turmoil and loss of communication. And cultural differences, says Van Zandt and refers to the series’ balancing act between family comedy and adult movies.

Embarrassing incident

– Rubicon and NRK said last week that they had not made up his mind that there are more “Lily Hammer” and was surprised your initiatives?

– Well, I’m a little surprised that they are surprised. You can not really go three or four years between seasons, if you have not been renewed before the end of last season.

– Who took the decision, if not you, Rubicon or NRK did it?

– I think it came from a break in communication between the parties. We have an event that took place that was embarrassing and strange: I think many people owe on Netflix and NRK to have a conflict because NRK leave out the series on their websites before Netflix. I think it embarrassing moment contributed to a loss of communication, says Van Zandt.

He stressed that he did not think it was intentional from NRK page.

– I am absolutely sure that NRK would have never broken a contract on purpose. It is nevertheless not a Norwegian thing to do.

NRK: – The cooperation was excellent

Petter Wallace, external manager at NRK, confirmed to VG that NRK had a break in communication with Netflix, but the incident solved painlessly.

– The questions that came up in connection with NRK publication were discussed with all parties and was resolved last December. There are no outstanding issues between NRK and some others, and all this is resolved in a way that all parties are happy with, he says.

He says that the production of “Lily Hammer” is structured in a special way which implies that there is a long way between some of the parties and that NRK therefore have had little communication with Netflix, but rather related to the production and distribution company.

– Beyond it has cooperated with excellent Rubicon, Steven and distribution company representing Netflix. I know of no other challenges beyond that, says Wallace, and stresses that no doors are closed.

– We will sit down and discuss “Lily Hammers’ future after the summer, with all involved . We have not closed the door for either continuation or closure, but it goes against a possible continuation means that we must either work with a new investor or scale program back to a lavkostnadsprosjekt.

Van Zandt told VG that a fourth season of “Lily Hammer” with Frank Tagliano not completely excluded.

– Everything is possible. One should never say never, but it is unlikely. I’m going to have a new show within the year ends, or a new career where I do anything else. I have a lot of time in America, and has sensors and ideas out there.

– What would it take for you to come back as Frank Tagliano?

– A contract, an offer. That someone wants me to do it. But it is not just business. Artistic were “Lily Hammer” hard to do, with a lot of tension between NRK family comedy and Netflix ‘grow subscriptions, which are opposites. We did both happy, it’s miraculous.
