(Dagbladet): The Norwegian directors Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg secured considerable attention after they made the Oscar-nominated film “Kon-Tiki”.

In May 2013 it became known that they had received the prestigious assignment to regisere “Pirates of the Caribbean 5″ with himself Johnny Depp in the lead role.

After several delays and bumps in the road got guys finally started recording in Australia at the start of the year. After seven months of intense work, the guys now back on Norwegian soil. It writes Sandefjords leaf.

– We have shown that we master such a large project. There has been an enormous production, and the peak was 2,000 people involved. But we kept ourselves to budget and schedule, and now we’re among the 10-20 top directors in Hollywood. The brands we partly scripts we receive, says Rønning told the newspaper.

The guys says that there has been a challenging and exciting period. There have been eleven ships and many people to keep track of, in addition to a long list of different recording locations.

But one of the biggest highlights of directors has been working with just superstars Johnny Depp.

– He is an intelligent and funny guy, and a unique specimen as an actor. It is an honor to work with him, says Sandberg.

– It was definitely one of those “Wow, we actually sit here with Captain Jack Sparrow” feeling. He is a wonderfully warm and wonderful human being. And Johnny is simply a comedic genius, adds Rønning, to Sandefjords leaf.

Johnny Depp has not made a secret of his enthusiasm for the Norwegian directors. To the Philippine newspaper Philippines Inquirer he has previously said that he is convinced that Sandberg and Rønning are the right people for the job.

– I appreciate enormous price on them, they are super-talented. They have great sense of humor. I think they have a really fun approach to what we intend to do with the next “Pirates” said Depp told the newspaper before recording starts.

Postponements

The film initially had its premiere in July 2015, but the film was at some point postponed indefinitely. The project was first postponed because producers in Disney did not mean the original screenplay held goals.

Also during the filming got gang itself a challenge when Johnny Depp suffered an injury in his hand and had to leave the filming for an extended period.

They struggled at times also with bad weather. The tropical hurricane Nathan hit the set shortly after the recording was started in February.

Rønning and Sandberg says nevertheless Sandefjords leaf that they remained within the budget and schedule while recording.

With its budget of $ 250 million, the film is bigger than anything anyone Norwegian director has been responsible for the past.
