Sources told VG: So far, Telenor to resolve TV war – VG

Sources close to the negotiations confirmed to VG that after Discovery’s offer Wednesday, Telenor has now offered a rise of approximately ten cents per month per customer.

This is payment for the 13 channels that are now in black, and the answer to the Discovery much-publicized desire “a coffee” in the year.

the offer includes for the VG not Tippeligaen, which dealt with a separate negotiation.

Neither communication manager, Telenor, Tormod Sandstø or Espen Skoland, communications director at TV Norge and Discovery Network would like to say something about where negotiations stand today.

TV war between Canal Digital and Discovery are several
hundred million. Telenor believes that tougher and more demanding American owners, the cause of the rupture between the two companies.

RESPONDING Tormod Sandstø, Communication Manager, Telenor

– We have always agreed with TV Norway-owners before but after American Discovery became an owner in 2013, it is almost surprising that they run black screens as an instrument. Just over 15 months Nordic customers thrice lost channels when American Discovery did not get what they want, says head of information at Telenor, Tormod Sandstø, VG.

He says that first happened with Swedish Boxer idesember 2014: Then with Telia in April last year.

– This is the first time we are negotiating with Discovery for TV Norge channels and now the Norwegian viewers who lose channels, because it uses the same instrument here, continues Sandstø .

TVNorge: Canal Digital has increased the price of 1,000 million

– to talk about our American ownership is a derailment. Telenor is almost twice as large as Discovery. It seems that they are not interested in talking about what this case is about. Telenor has increased its prices to its customers with 1,000 million since we negotiated the last, in 2010. Not one cent of these have accrued to us, or production of Norwegian TV. We ask for a price increase equivalent to one cup of coffee per customer per year, and that Telenor will pay the same level as the other Norwegian distributors – which we have deals with, says Espen Skoland, communications director at TV Norge and Discovery Networks VG.

RESPONDING: Espen Skoland, communications director at TV Norge and Discovery Networks.

Canal Digital is now offering its customers both access to free movie channel “C-more” for two months and free access to the Discovery network plays “D play” out in February as an apology.

– Although this is just a network solution, it is certainly an opportunity to view the channels that are not available on TV during the conflict, says Sandstø.

at the same time he did not hide the fact that Telenor and Canal Digital has been accused of not being willing to pay extra for Norwegian content.

– But we react strongly that we are accused of not being willing to pay extra for Norwegian content. It is not the case. On the contrary. In negotiations with Discovery, we have clearly stated that we are willing to stretch ourselves far when it comes Discovery Norwegian channels TV Norge. Five, Max and Vox. We are willing to pay for good Norwegian content. It is the total price is too high, says Sandstø.

Already last week before the talks failed reacted Telenor Harald Strømmes coffee cup accounting, where he wrote on his own website that “the price increase we request from Telenor and Canal Digital equivalent of one cup of coffee per customer, per year.”

– TVNorge boss Harald Stromme and Discovery Networks requires a cup of coffee per customer more in the year of the distributor Canal Digital. Each year. Totals can be 300 million, wrote DN Wednesday.

Sandstø do not want to say anything more about this beyond what he told VG last Friday:

– This is a mere diversion from Strømmes page. Had it been so easy, we had been agreed long ago. The requirement of price increase is hundreds of million during the contract period.

Set of Canal Digital’s side there is the other smaller and more niche Discovery channels controversy is about.

– American Discovery, a giant media company, trading rights for billions, such as the Olympic rights for 1.3 billion euros and then they will send this extra bill directly to customers, says Sandstø.
