Den allmektige Paul McCartney – Side2

Paul McCartney Out There Tour
Telenor Arena
Sold

A Paul McCartney concert is probably a bit like going on a very extended family gatherings. Or be a form of cult meeting. Both sexes of all ages are represented, where polo shirts and 50 year Amalie sits side by side with long-haired rockers in their 20s, grandmothers with dress and sneakers on dancing feet, and silvery mane need binoculars to help to catch the happens on stage. There is only one common denominator, and that is the Almighty, who apparently gather generations and lifestyles better than King and Fatherland – Sir Paul McCartney.

It is 11 years since the last time he was here, but the audience had a good time Tuesday night and spent nearly the first hour to get in the swing and get both vocal cords warm and to get back on their feet. It reminded me reverently embarrassment. The voice he had in place and feet he stood mostly on (except when he sat at the piano), Paul McCartney, but he needed time to get into his own three-hour set. Half an hour after the announced time he took the stage and went running 8 Days a Week as the first song. And – perhaps not surprisingly, it was the old that was best in Telenor Arena. Rather, it was old best- Beatles songs filled (almost) alone last half of the concert.

There’s something a bit sad about it – without the other three missing much: It’s The Beatles most are looking for. But with the help of his four-man band, reminiscing back at the screen and two hours of well-known hits from a bygone time, lured 73-year-old with his audience. He also even the most complacent after songs like Lady Madonna and Ob-la di Ob-la da da crowd had given the most, even though Wings songs made rough riffs and standing audience, and McCartney’s latest songs from latest album New, got the eager to jump in line anyway.

For many, it was probably the first time with Paul on Norwegian soil, the age range considered. And possibly the last. Both because of his age but also the bulk of the fans’ age – not all bear get up so often from the plastic chairs that were placed out in front of the stage. But it was also the mature ladies who again was Mia Maids and howled (albeit very low) when Paul smiled broadly and said, “Hey Oslo” and old guys who raised his arms in the air as if Norway had taken Olympic gold in any sport on skis, when favorite songs were played. It was simply good mood.

That is – the first 45 went pretty slow. This is an evening with Paul McCarteny, where he is responsible for the performance of the cavalcade – so maybe it takes some time before you dry do much else than to draw breath near a living icon.

But Paul spoke some Norwegian here and there. Was personally about Blackbird and the civil rights movement in the United States he wanted to send their support to the track. Small jokes and waving to the crowd. He told little anecdotes from songwriting in Liverpool with John, about Georges ukulele talent and congratulated Ringo with day on day. His voice is remarkably unchanged after 50 years of song use, and he is as sweet and baby-face as he always has been, wrinkles included. There were also a couple of songs he has never played in Norway earlier – not that Another Girl was unknown to the public because of that.

At times he can seem a little disinterested, but possibly it is just his way of following the public’s pace. There may be two years of continuous tournament activity that makes it almost too professional. Anyway – the last 45 minutes had all come up on their feet and it was sung with no shyness in Hey Jude, gasped in delight during pyro under Live and let Die, it was danced as well as psychedelic to Helter Skelter and it was cheered by synchronously Carry That Weight and closing track. Then Paul even a sweaty grin that has waved with the Norwegian and British flag, and made some lucky chosen get up on stage. Before his thanks for their attendance, and we say see you next time. But the question is useless to try to collect the same family, if he tarries 11 years again.
