Nothing new that social media giants are copying each other, says social media expert.
Tuesday rolled Instagram out an update with a seemingly brand new feature.
Now you have the opportunity to share ten seconds long everyday moments, in the form photos and videos, on your own profile.
you can add text, colorful filters and draw on them, before you share your creations with your followers. After one day they will disappear for good.
Instagram call it “Stories”.
Sounds familiar? It is perhaps not surprising. Snapchat’s had a similar function called “My Story,” in almost three years.
Admits equality
After the update has naturally many pointed out that the new “Stories” feature reminds well a lot about Snapchat “My Story” – something Instagram CEO nor one hides.
in an interview with TechCrunch admits namely Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom that they have been inspired by your opponent.
– Snapchat deserve all the credit, saying Systrom adding:
– it’s still not on who took it used first, but rather on how to incorporate function in your network and how to create a twist on it.
Instagram Stories are scheduled for release globally over the next few weeks, but it seems that the update is already is available in Norway.
Jack Brody, one of Snapchat product designers, compared according to Business Insider Instagram change with Melania Trump’s much-publicized speech:
Will take back moments
In a blog post, where they present the new feature, the Instagram that they want you now to share all everyday moments, and do not just highlights.
that Instagram with time has become more of a showcase, just with space for your best shots, and not a place you share “everything”, says Hans-Petter Nygård-Hansen has been problematic for app giant.
– On Instagram can not share many photos or videos a day before people perceive it as spam, and then there will be the highlights.
– Where Instagram is carefully orchestrated, is Snapchat more unfiltered and immediately, said communication and social media expert.
– Any copying each other
Facebook-owned Instagram currently has around 300 million users who visit daily, roughly twice what Snapchat have.
Nygård-Hansen believes that the difference now may increase.
– the reason that Instagram introduces this feature is the very simple. In addition to recruiting new users, they want the win back those who have fled to Snapchat.
If they succeed dare not Nygård-Hansen to say for sure.
– The older audience, which may not use Snapchat active, will probably get a reason to be more active on Instagram. I do not think many of the younger ones, who dig Snapchat, will be tempted above on Instagram again soon. But this time will tell.
That “Stories” is almost a carbon copy of “My Story”, do not mean Nygård-Hansen particularly sensational.
– It is no different than that Snapchat offers photo-filters, as Instagram was making popular. Any copying each other. Nevertheless, they might do something about the name, although it will help Snapchat users to familiarize themselves with it.
