Book Review: synnøve macody lund ‘People you may know “- VG

“Frikjent» -hovedrolleinnhaver synnøve macody lund is perhaps as much a writer and as an actor. But it seems that she does not believe it for yourself.

Film’s best with live images. Therefore does not synnøve macody lund debut novel, “People you may know” absolutely optimal. While I read, I think: this is well written, but what will she actually with this novel?

Let me explain: Synnøve writes about himself. In a for adults Christmas, where children are with my ex, she comes home to her father. Where should she actually writing a novel about him but can not.

Instead she writes up the love life of three women: Eve, Live and Anna, the latter really is herself. Then we are already up in five main people to keep track of. In addition, we can add Eskild, twin brother to Eva, and his flirtation, Mari.

All of these are “people you may know.” Facebook is also a reference here, where two of the individuals into contact with each other.

Boksnakk in Pocket : Guess who knocks on the door to Lou in the continuation of “An entire half year “?

For we soon discover that the characters’ stories are entangled in each other, in good old-fashioned” Short Cuts “-ånd. And Anna, that the author himself, make a point out of it by describing the power cords:

“following thread, from post to post, to various neighbors, from their house to his. Thread that binds us together. “

isolation is the stories of Eva, Live, Anna, Eskild and Mari well done. But frame story about Synnøve and her father seems unnecessary, and could rather been spared to a recent collection of short stories.

Recent book reviews here!

For the scarce 200 pages it’s almost impossible to get to know seven as central characters. Of course it is possible to have many characters in a book, but then the universe expands, the volume must be up, as in the masterful “Doing good” by Trude Marstein. Now emerges “People you may know” as a Marstein-light book. And that’s a shame.

For there is gold here.

Dual couple Eva and Eskild is fascinating and gives me chills . The author has an interesting reference to Virginia Woolf’s novel “Orlando”, where the protagonist is born as a boy, but becomes a woman. Connected to this reference, should the story of twin pair has been developed into a full, independent novel.

Macody Lund has a good language, which is direct, physical and verbal. But she must rely more on that she could write up a story without too many instruments.

For there is no doubt that synnøve macody lund is an obvious writer talent . She must just understand it yourself.
