Knausgård awarded prestigious prize in Germany – NRK

Knausgård awarded the prize for his entire literary work and receive their awards on November 6 in Axel-Springer-Haus in Berlin.

The jury said among other things that Knausgård is a literary phenomenon. With his six-volume novel cycle My battle on several thousand pages, he has redefined contemporary autobiographical literature in a radical way.

Furthermore, it says that Knausgård understand the relationship between remembrance and story in an innovative and exemplary way, and hardly any reader can fail to be fascinated by his extreme self-disclosure.

Knausgård is the 17th recipient of Die Welt Literature. Previous winners include Haruki Murakami (2014), Albert Oster Maier (2011), Daniel Kehlmann (2007), and Yasmina Reza (2005).

Die Welt Literature Prize consists of $ 10,000 and is to memory of Willy Haas, who in 1925 founded the Die literarische WELT.
