SVT does about-face and sends prinsedåp – NRK

Last week notified the newspaper Expressen that Sveriges Television (SVT) had chosen to stand over the baptism of Princess Madeleine and Chris O’Neill son Prince Nicolas 11 October.

Now turn the Swedish public service broadcaster 180 degrees after protests from the public, according to the same newspaper.

Wild broken 40-year tradition

According to the newspaper’s sources, SVT received widespread criticism for the decision not to directly transmit baptism .

About the decision had been standing, it would be the first time in the modern era broadcaster not directly transmitted a royal anniversary or event, a tradition which started with King Carl Gustav and Queen Silvia’s wedding in 1976.

High costs must have been the main reason why SVT, which will organize the international final in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2016, initially wanted to sign passport.

Instead, would they cover the royal event in its annual cavalcade sending “Year by Kungafamiljen,” said program coordinator for culture and events in SVT, Clara Mannheimer Wednesday last week.

Easier sending

Monday this week, had Mannheimer and SVT come to mend his ways:

– Many audience members have let hear from him and been disappointed. We have listened to them, and reached the conclusion that we can make a nice and solemn, but less comprehensive, broadcast from the ceremony, said Mannheimer to SVT’s own website.

When SVT now still sends baptism, it is therefore a less extensive transmission than the Swedish TV viewers are accustomed to, without studio hosts, but with comments along the way.

The commercial public service broadcaster TV4 (corresponding Norwegian TV 2) more times expressed their interest to directly transfer royal events, but negotiations will be stranded because the royal family and the court does not want advertising break.
