“Luxury Trap” -participants dared not open bills in two years.
SEOGHØR.NO: In Wednesday’s episode of “Luxury Trap” on TV3 we meet Tom Emil Korsgaard (23) from the magazine. He lives in the basement of his uncle, and after that the rent was paid, he used the rest of his salary on smoking, alcohol and festivities.
But in economic terms, there is little reminiscent of celebration and fun for 23-year-old.
He has in fact suffered over 500 000 in debt collection debt, and it all started when he four years ago underwent obesity treatment.
– I took out a personal loan of 90 000 to implement obesity treatment. I weighed 134 kg, he says in “Luxury Trap” episode.
For Seoghør.no he says now in retrospect that he should have waited until he was older before he had taken up consumer loan:
– Healthwise, I feel that it was worth taking up the loan, so I underwent surgery. When it comes to the economic as I realize now that I had been served by waiting a few years, and also put me more into what responsibility it is to take on such a loan.
Admits that he was naive
Korsgaard eventually managed not to serve the vast consumer loan and ended up getting dread to open bills that ended up in the mailbox:
– On average, I think there comes a seven to eight collection bills within one week. I do not think I’ve opened a single bill I have not known what has been two years. They were really just laid aside, and so I did not dare to open them, he explains.
– Was not it a bit naive to think that the problem was going to disappear just by that you did not open the envelopes?
– I have now realized that the problems do not disappear by itself, and that it not to open the bills will not solve the problem. I was young and felt terror at it to disappoint both myself and those around me. The solution was that I tried to dig up the problem – and it can be called naive.
Drank up consumer loan
To forget the problems piling up, he used most of their time partying:
– I’m trying to forget this situation here to be with friends, partying, and to focus on something else, instead of sitting at home and dig into dark thoughts, says Tom Emil with lump in the throat under “Luxury Trap” episode.
“Luxury Trap” -ekspert Hallgeir Kvadsheim says to Seoghør.no that this unfortunately is not an uncommon problem for people in the early 20s:
– Yes, there is more and more common. It provides the high profitability for banks, since the interest rate is between 15 and 25 percent. They serve good that young people take up consumer loans. he explains, adding:
– But the latest figures also show that there is now a great deal fewer collection cases involving those under 30 than for Just two years ago. We hope that we “Luxury Trap” has been instrumental in helping to change young people’s thinking.
Be open about the problems
– Do you have any tips and advice to those who have envelope horror, and who do not dare to open their bills?
– Do not stick your head in the sand. Be open about your problems. Maybe you can get a volunteer with a good friend or family member where you together open the bills, so you get it kicked back as you need.
– You must remember: even if the bills pile up in a big pile, and it looks like a lot, it’s often the case that one bill will be sent out on several occasions – that there are several bills on the same claim . Then you can throw the excess bills and pay the final.
“Luxury Trap” broadcast on TV3 Wednesday at 20:30.
