Acquitted of “just over, stigmatizing and sjikanøs” editorial – NRK

Press Complaints Commission (PFU) met today to discuss the issue between Itromsø and Human Rights Service.

editor of the newspaper, Stig Jakobsen went very strongly against the political foundation Human Rights Service (HRS). The basis was the foundation’s immigration critical views.

In the leading article, which is entitled “The Legacy of Behring Breivik,” according include the following:

“They represent in any way it Norwegian people. Had they been born 75 years earlier, such a political standpoint meant that they were in the National Assembly and supported the Nazi occupation of Norway. That over the years has replaced “Jews” with “Muslims” as an enemy image, the only thing new. And if you wondered what the Norwegian people thought about the National Assembly, you should know that most of its members were imprisoned after the war, some even fired. “

Rita Karlsen, general manager of the HRS came with its reply in the newspaper the following day.

– This is almost the reverse racism

PFU agreed that the statements in the manager was way out of line, but still choose to absolve Itromsø. The Committee refers to paragraph 1 of the Code of Ethics, which according to them are evident in this case.

This despite the fact that the editorial was slaughtered in the Council. Words such as “defamatory” and “unreasonable” was used repeatedly to describe the content.

TV2 Øyvind Brigg was strongly critical to acquit Itromsø for what he thinks is near-racism.

– I wonder how one would react if this leader had come for a different organization than just Human Rights Service. Man has broken through the roof here, the content is so incredibly rough. It is stigmatizing and almost reverse racism, said Brig during treatment.

– There’s some of it over a thing I’ve ever read, so I do not support the conclusion, said Brig.

Also Dagbladet Frode Hansen realized that HRS filed the complaint.

– One can certainly say that this is defamatory and unreasonable. So I understand complaints very well, said Hansen.

Believes editor “shat out”

The Council nevertheless fell down to acquit Itromsø. Forward-editor Tone Angell Jensen summed up the matter as follows:

– It is every editor’s right to shit out into the public domain, and that, I think has happened here, said Jensen.

Council’s final statement underlines repeatedly that the leader went too far.

“The terms” Nazi “and” neo-Nazi “is so specifically bothersome that it is necessary to demonstrate that there is just cause to use such characteristics,” said the statement, which here can read in its entirety.
