When the moment everyone was waiting for was inside did presenter Steve Harvey his life mistake: He proclaimed mistakes wins.
Crowned wrong head
Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez managed to let the tears roll and get the crown on the head, before the error message came contraindicated. It was Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, which was the right winner. The report, among others, Fox News.
A full minute went by Harvey gave the title to the Colombian participant, until he again asked for the floor.
A distraught presenter told then that he had made a mistake – and that it was the Philippines that the winners of the competition.
This gave viewers who were watching the live TV view that the reigning Miss Universe winner, Paulina Vega, took the crown from one beauty participant and gave to the other.
– Feel miserable
Video of the incident shows the confusion that arose after Harvey regretted the error.
He has since taken to Twitter to apologize.
– I want with all my heart apologize to Miss Colombia and Miss Philippines for my huge mistake. I feel lousy, he writes.
Has happened before
It is not the first time a beauty contest announces wrong winner.
Two years ago, Denise Garrido named this year’s Miss Universe Canda.
With a sparkling crown, flowers and congratulations described 26-year-old experience as the perfect happiness.
24 hours after the pageant, she was summoned to an urgent meeting in which the director of the pageant told that it had been a mistake.
The reason was that the jury had written the wrong name, and it turned out that Garrido was the winner anyway. The actual winner was the participant who had hijacked second place, Riza Santos.
