Two films receive support
Regulation of the Incentive Program for film and series productions came into force on 1 January 2016.
When the application deadline expired on January 21 earlier this year had Norwegian film Institute received four applications with a total budgeted cost in Norway of 384 million.
The subsidy administered by the Norwegian Film Institute and has a budget of NOK 45 million for 2016.
In its first decision meeting where applications to the new incentive scheme for film and series productions have been treated, has Norwegian film Institute decided to offer grants to “the Snowman” and “downsizing”.
‘the Snowman’ earns a majority of pot 40.5 million while “downsizing” gets 4, 5 million, writes Norwegian film Institute in a statement.
– Absolutely top
Truls Kontny, head of the Norwegian film Commission, tells Dagbladet that he thinks that it’s nice we get so exciting projects hit to Norway.
– This is great, it shows what kind of success this scheme. Of course we should have had more and now we get so exciting projects here. Let’s hope that we get more into the pot gradually so must the good powers try to work to ensure that it becomes a reality, says Kontny before he brags what Norwegian Film Institute has got:
– This scheme was put in place before Christmas and had a deadline at the start of January. It is amazing that they have got it in such a short time.
Secret Filled production
It has been important for politicians in Oslo and on Parliament to make the “Snowman” productions here.
The recording was not finally added to the Norwegian capital of Oslo before letting SEK 1.5 million on the table to lure the production here.
The film began production in January and they have kept the cards close to his chest.
Once one of the most extensive scenes of ‘The Snowman “was recorded in and around the City Hall did not even the extras know what to do in advance.
Michael Fassbender plays Harry Hole while including Jakob Oftebro and “Tombstone” -legenden Val Kilmer shows up in other key roles in the movie.
“Snowman” is now one of the two first foreign productions receiving enjoy government incentive scheme for film.
Damon to Norway
“downsizing” that got a little smaller sum is the Oscar-nominated director Alexander Payne’s new film.
The plan is that the shooting of “downsizing” with superstar Matt Damon in the lead role will start to fall.
The film is set in an era where people shrunk to make the less resource intensive.
Damon, who was recently nominated for an Oscar for her role in “The Martian”, plays an American man who gets shrunk and who have to move to one of the newly formed society of crimped people.
– This is a film with more than 200 employees, famous actors and a famous director. Otherwise the movie is playing in here, will Norway miss significant revenue and international marketing , said Per Henry Borch film Norwegian line producer Dagbladet in January.
Borch feared that “The Snowman” had already been promised a large part of the incentive pot and that Damon movie therefore not had a real chance.
– The plan now is that seven to eight percent of the filming will take place in Norway. If the movie does not become part of the incentive scheme will be enough only one small drink being filmed here, he said.
Now the film has gotten a little bit of incentive cake, so when is the possibility that Damon come here a little bigger.
Based on international potential
– If they want to search again, they have to move production one year in time, the support is based on when production starts, says Department for launch in the Norwegian film Institute, Stine Helgeland, to Dagbladet.
She said Norwegian Film Institute has worked very thoroughly. They have worked to establish a method to evaluate the films that have submitted applications so that they have a method for this process that can function in the long term.
– Three applications were qualified and who fulfilled the requirements we have set. The purpose of the scheme is that it will help to get major international series and films to Norway and contribute to increased knowledge and experience in the film industry continues Helgeland.
NFI writes press release that when assessing – and the ranking of applicants they have emphasized production ‘international equipotential and size, the extent to which the project will contribute to a real increase in manufacturing activity in Norway and whether the Norwegian budget allocation will strengthen the Norwegian film industry by creating growth, increased experience and knowledge.
– It was very obvious that “The Snowman” was chosen as number one. It has got what it searched for, then got “downsizing” the rest of the pot. There was no more money in our framework simply says Helgeland.
“downsizing” has a Norwegian budget of about NOK 41 million, while “The Snowman” has a budget of about 180 million.
