(Dagbladet): Yesterday it was announced that Eurovision participant Fredrik ‘Freddy Kalas »Auke (25) was disqualified. This is because the track he would participate with, “Happy Rush” was too similar to a Russian song “Cannabus” which he released in 2011.
It appeared however to be wrong that he was disqualified from the show, when there were only song that had to go. Auke get a second chance, and the new song will be presented at 18 tonight.
The incident, however, triggered reactions. Head of the Norwegian MGP club, Morten Thomassen says the incident is embarrassing for the artist himself.
– The songs must be original
Thomassen explains that all artists who will participate in MGP must sign a contract with NRK. This states that all songs will be brand new.
The fact that Auke has plagiarized one Russian song he have created himself, says Thomassen is a clear violation of the rules.
– “All” know that the songs must be original. It writes one sign. It is therefore quite embarrassing for him that people stand up and point out that the songs are similar. In addition, even plagiarism, not plagiarism of others as it usually is, he said.
On the question about whether it is okay that Auke allowed to continue in the competition, he explains that there will be a ruling that NRK must take.
– Any station can create new rules in national finals. They decide if he will be allowed to try. One can not expect that NRK will have an overview of everything, he said.
– Have something lying
Thomassen think Auke, who will publish his new song tonight, certainly had something he could participate with landscape clearly.
– I think most composers have something lying around that they have already recorded. He had at least probably not agreed to continue if he had something in his back pocket, he said.
Jan Fredrik Karlsen’s musical director in MGP. Dagbladet he explains that he understands the question of whether they should not have discovered this in advance.
– But it’s hard to know if all Norwegian songs that are released, regardless of context. When you set the bit for high demands, says Karlsen.
– Chairs on the
MGP-general explains that they are not investigating the contributions because they expect that there is a mutual understanding that the songs must be original .
– This goes on that you think everyone knows what the premise is and that you trust it. At the same time they have probably not made it here on purpose. But we have a plan and should we share six o’clock tonight.
– Taking yourselves criticism?
– You, you can meet us at six o’clock in the evening and so we see, says Karlsen.
– Button Time
Former commentator for MGP, Jostein Pedersen explains Dagbladet that he is not familiar with the case in question . On a general basis, he explains, however, that he believes Auke allowed to continue in the competition because of time pressure.
– They’ve got little time on it, so that’s probably what is the cause. There is much to be in place before the final, so it is perhaps easier to let him continue further, he said.
He explains that MGP is mainly a songwriter competition and that trust contributions provided are new. Pedersen does not know how many contributions they got into years, but he believes it is too much to expect them to double check all.
– There are probably hundreds of songs submitted, and it is estimated the fall of all shows good competitive spirit, he said.
The other artists who will participate in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest is Agnete, Elouiz, Laila Samuels, Makeda, Pegasus, Stage Dools, Stile Hole Ulla, Suite 16 and The Hungry Hearts featuring Lisa Dillan.
Aukes manager, Christoffer Homes, declined to comment to Dagbladet.
