Fraudsters tempt with 55-inch TV in the fake SMS – Telemarksavisa

The text message appears to come from Elkjøp or Expert, and has been sent out to a variety of mobile phones on Thursday.

In the message, which contains several typos, reads: “Congratulations! You have been chosen to e receive one free Samsung 55 “UDH Smart TV – Fe prize here.” Then follows a link.

A message appears to come from Elkjøp or Expert, but is in reality false . Police in Hordaland warns people against clicking on the link, and refer to it as fraudulent.

Elkjøp: – The first time

Elkjøp also warns against SMS.

– There are some who try to fool people by using our logo and brand, says communications manager Øystein Schmidt in Elkjøp to BA.

Many people have made contact with them in social media Thursday to ask the prize is real.

Elkjøp have, since they were made aware of the false message worked to tell that there is no chain behind.

Elkjøp have been subjected to similar abuse of logo and brand name in emails before, but the size and scope of the ongoing Thursday night is new to the company.

– It appeared in the afternoon today, and as far as I know we have not seen similar use of our logo and our brand on sms, says Schmidt.

Elkjøp looking seriously at the issue, and both IT department and its lawyers are engaged.

– It is difficult to see who is behind, but we promise that we will do everything in our power to get to the bottom of it. If anyone gets this message should delete the umibbelbart, and certainly not pressing the link.

A data blogger who claims to have followed the link writes that it leads to a series of questions in a survey. At the end of the examination shall blogger have been asked to fill out contact information and credit card information to receive the prize.

There is, for the sake of clarity, no tv to win from either Elkjøp or Expert.



New methods

Scammers take new processes are constantly in use. BA has previously written about the Humanist Association of Bergen who received two letters.

The envelopes containing invoices from what appears to be a company called Office Direct. Invoices sounded at 580 euros, and in the item description reads “Office suite, Win, 12, Business, Pro.”

Association reacted eventually that sum was quoted in Euros, and double checked the matter. It turned out that the envelopes were postmarked in India, and that no one had ordered upgrade of a Microsoft Windows-subscription.
