TV Henning Kvitnes is guest of honor at the third program in this year’s “Every time we meet” on TV 2. The rocker from Halden has a nearly 40-year career as a singer and songwriter in the band or as a solo artist . This mean Dagbladet about interpretations of his songs:
Unni Wilhelmsen “Last reis” (Kvitnes)
Unni has not yet stepped wrong. She has written about the text entirely and gotten it to act on themselves – and get extra points for a nice and honest summary of the artist life so far! After a cautious start, pushes she added. It has become a great combination of drinking song and shanty which certainly sounds particularly good at the renowned pub in Halden with the same name as visas.
Jørn Hoel, “Na na na …. the sky into” (Kvitnes)
Jørn Hoel approaching comfort zone here, but is not in the country yet. Henning is by his own account no dances, and Jorn is also småkeitete when he should take things like dance steps. But the music speaks. With the African element has Jørn made a version of this song reminiscent of his 30 years old Grand Prix song “Inkululeko.” Mix it with a little Graceland feeling a la Paul Simon, and you have a quite different version that suits Jørn pretty good.
Eva Weel Skram: “Eternal owned only a bad reputation” (Kvitnes)
This is well Hennings most famous title and text line, in Basically a singalong friendly song that brings out the good mood. Here we get a stripped version with Eva behind the piano, and only her. So we have probably never seen her before? This simple setting is a familiar exercise in “Every time we meet,” and it was only a matter of time before it would come. But – it beats rarely wrong. There’s something about going to the core of the song and find the fragile points that coaxes the good feelings. “Finally a real version of the song,” says Henning. And Unni must cry a little.
Wenche Myhre: “Such as us” (Poul Krebs / Krebs / Kvitnes)
Wenche unusually close and sensitive in this song, which was written by Hennings Danish comrade Poul Krebs – and translated by Kvitnes. Perhaps it is because she has brought “kjær’sten” Swedish Anders Eljas, on piano. And – this smells Eljas event long way. Clearly Wenche find a bit of herself into this song. She performs with the strong empathy, build it up and getting the best out of it. She gets simply a good song to sound even better, and every eye is wet! “Such like us, we need a kjær’ste», sings Wenche sweet and looking at Eljas behind the piano. A stirred Jørn can say it: ‘You are better now, Wenche Myhre, than you’ve ever been. ” Powerful!
Ravi: “Guttær” (Steve Earle / Earle / Kvitnes)
” Guttær “has never been my Henning-favorite, despite the fact that it was originally a Steve Earle song called” Pilgrim. ” Maybe it’s because it is too simple. But it could thus be better – in an event that Halden band Uncle Tuka could been left behind. It turns out there deep in there lives a small country soul in Ravi. He has made a personal, completely rewritten version of Hennings birthday present for the author Levi Henriksen and replaced “pilgrimage” with “gjøglær.” Here works the mix of rap and singing, and Ravi promises sharply after a bad start in this “Every time we meet” rounds.
Admiral P: “No time to lose” (Kvitnes)
Admiral P concludes the qualitatively smoothest “Everytime” – round so far with perhaps the most personal song Henning wrote. Original version is very quiet, but it does not fit Admiral P. There will be a Caribbean-inspired partylåt and soreness blown away. But he obviously has no time to lose, and runs on. Funny enough, but I’m still waiting to see the admiral in a slightly different setting than the usual and safe.
We have to wait two weeks for next Saturday’s he who is the guest of honor.
