Nordic Music Prize was awarded on Thursday evening at Larm, and Band of Gold’s self-titled debut album went all the way to win.
The award was introduced in 2010, and for the first time there is a Norwegian artist who wins award inspired by the British and Irish Mercury Prize.
Band of Gold went all the way in competition with 11 other shortlist albums, two of which originated from Norwegian artists (Ost & amp; Kjex and Jenny Whale) .
Band of Gold consists of Nina Mortvedt and Nikolai Hængsle Eilertsen, and their debut album has been unanimously acclaimed in Norwegian music press, including Aftenposten and Dagens Næringsliv.

The jury’s citation reads inter alia as follows (our translation):
– Band of Gold’s debut album brought all jurors together a tribute of their knowledgeable and fascinating fusion of different styles. It’s an album embedded in the traditions of classical pop-rock from Abba to Fleetwood Mac, with dazzling arrangements and harmonies, fine melodies and brilliant game.
The international jury consists of three Britons: Jeannette Lee of Rough Trade Records, journalists Jude Rogers (the Guardian) and Stuart Maconie (BBC) and American Jonathan Galkin of DFA Records.
the previous winners of the prize are Jónsi (2010), Goran Kajfes (2011), First Aid Kit ( 2012), The Knife (2013), and Mirel Wagner (2014).
