Coming to Bergen to clean up – BergensAvisen

– Lessons and experiences from Monika case is an important backdrop and a red line for what is now to happen, says Kaare Songstad (49) to BA.

He was in Council on Friday appointed chief of police Hordaland and Sogn og Fjordane for the next six years.

He will head the new Western Police District.

Alerts Changes

Employees and part representatives have taken called for changes in management, board and care at the police station after the infamous Monika case. And it gets there.

– There is no drama behind it. But it is clear that there will be personnel changes when two police districts should be combined into one, said Songstad to BA.

He expresses that he is looking forward to taking on this task and come back to his hometown of Bergen .

He sees it as a big challenge to provide security internally and restore public confidence. Meanwhile, two police with different cultures chiselled together and pull in the same direction.



Var favorite for the job

The appointment of Songstad did not come as a surprise in the Police of Norway. He was long launched as favorite for the job, and enjoys great respect in the police station in Bergen.

-There are many challenges and an excellent job he has taken on when two police with different cultures merged into one, says Kjetil Rekdal to BA. He is manager of the Norwegian Police Federation branch Hordaland.

He does not deny that the police district is, and has been in a difficult situation in the wake of Monika case.

– We hope Songstad take necessary action if we are to move on, and I wish him luck in the job, says union leader.

Before the New Year will be finally clear where the seat of the new police district West should lie, but after all appearances will be in Bergen.

Kaare Songstad is both law and business administration.

He is currently readiness Director of Police Directorate, and has previously worked as chief of police in West Finnmark and Haugaland and Sunnhordland.
