Advent-current Espen Eckbo (42) works closely with his wife Trine Stubberud (33). When the workday is over, it’s good to relax with dog Adjust.
– When I work on projects I am in my own bubble, but I try to make time for family dinners and walks with the dog occasionally, says Espen Eckbo when VG meet him and the dog Adjust the Sognsvann in Oslo.
The dog has been Eckbo-family own alarm clock and comedian admits that he is a real emotional dog person. He has dog sentimental reasons, the same race as when he grew up with a dog as “little brother” maternal westside.

Another julekalender
The 42-year-old soon current with new Christmas calendar on TVNorge, “Asbjørn Brekke Advent Calendar.” Previously, he has been behind “The Story of the barn” in 2001 and its sequel, “The Story of the Norwegian Oil Adventure” in 2011.
He does not get much time to relax at Christmas, with recording until mid-December. But he still try to get squeezed into some quality time with his two sons Herman (10) and Jesper (8).
– One of the great things about having children is that you can spend more time at home with good conscience. There is a valid reason to take a weekend off. It does not feel like it acceptable to say that one must have time off to go to the movies with friends, joking Eckbo.
Workaholic
In 2013, he married colleague and TV producer girlfriend Trine Stubberud, and the two are still working together.
– Once one is workaholic, there is the very practical with a partner in the workplace, but it can also be claustrophobic. A concern of the job can somehow anytime pulled out of the hat, and destroy even the most romantic moments.

Eckbo says that he thinks it’s strange to realize He lives by being comedian.
– As little I was full of reverence towards the old revue comedians. An uncle with good connections fixed me constantly into the locker room to the big stars of the Chat Noir. I got to meet Leif Juster, Arve Opsahl, Elisabeth Granne Mann, Dag Frøland and the entire bundle, with makeup and costume. It was large for an 8-year-old, he said.
The fascination of seeing that one can live to make others laugh sat down in the little boy. In the same period he acquire a home video camera by his maternal grandmother, playing at making videos.
– I started with touches hobby and continued with it a little too far into adulthood. Now the hobby turned into a job, it is almost beyond belief. I studied law and had never in the world dared to pursue a career as a comedian. But it went gradually and by itself, just by to accept the small opportunities that emerged. When I look back, it was probably this job I dreamed of having when I was little.
Finding gold grain
He says it is a myth that comedians always have fun at work. What he thinks is fun, the joy of finding a good joke – actual job is like digging for gold, it requires heavy roofs and are mostly a slit. But then comes the rewards when one finds gold grains.
– The creative process can be tiring. Part of my methodology is enough to be critical to most ideas, both their own and others. The goal is to see which returns despite all resistance, he says and adds:
– It’s a rule I think a lot about. I think it’s called sturgeon’s law, which says that ninety percent of everything is ass. So for every idea I use, should I have rejected ten.

Eckbo is known being a perfectionist and a hard worker, but he is unsure whether there is reason for the success.
– The main thing is to work with talented people. I often hear that I have to learn to rely more on others, but the “other” is the a broad term. I trust only slightly at most, but lots on anyone.
Started with skit
Although he had never imagined that Asbjørn Brekke, a red wine-drinking guy with cardigan, glasses and speech impediment, would become so popular almost 15 years after his first appearance in “The Story of the barn.”

It all started with a skit in 1998: A lonely man who got drunk on eggnog in their Christmas workshop. Page Asbjørn Brekke shaped who he is today.
– The figure is inspired by memories and observations of people I have encountered. I’ve always been fond of singles, cheerful people with a heel or two. Maybe because I often have felt so himself.
