NRK secures skiavtale for five years – NRK

Monday announces Ski Federation that NRK has gained rights to broadcast the so-called FIS sports in five years.

The agreement secures NRK broadcasting rights to national and international races out winter season 2020-21, and includes alpine, cross-country skiing, ski jumping, Nordic combined and freestyle.



This includes skiavtalen

  • World Cup Alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, FIS Freestyle during the period 2016/17 to 2020/21
  • National races and World Cup organized by the federation in the period 2016/17 to 2020 / 21
  • Championships in Alpine skiing in 2019 and 2021 and the World Championship in Nordic skiing in 2019 and 2021

Next winter season secured

NRK current agreement with Ski Federation expires after this season, and the agreement thus implies that there will be skiing on NRK also the next five years.

– It is a great relief that all the pieces around the agreements finally fell into place and we’re very excited to work towards providing the Norwegian folk worlds best skisendinger in coming years, says NRK sports director Rune Haug Monday.

The agreement comes after long negotiations with the Norwegian Ski Federation and the international rights company Infront, which manages the broadcasting rights on behalf of the International Ski Federation FIS. NRK rights chief for sports, Runar Østmo, is relieved to be in goal.

– I’ll admit that at times has been very intensive negotiations, but I am very glad that we finally managed to land both agreements within a proper framework, says Østmo.

– The main agreement we have

Also Broadcasting Chief Thor Gjermund Eriksen is happy to offer skiing on NRK in five years.

– This is perhaps the most important rights agreement we have. Skiing has a special place in people’s hearts and in Norwegian culture, and it is important for NRK to bring this sport free to the public, says Eriksen.

The agreement has a budget of 400 million over the next five years, but broadcasting boss defends spending to belief that NRK has gained tighter financial constraints.

– Very many of the rights NRK previously had, has gone to commercial channels. Therefore, it is incredibly important that we retain some of these agreements, and then Norwegian skiing paramount, says Eriksen.

Ships Resident Erik Røste are also pleased to continue the partnership with public service broadcaster.

– It is a good day for the Norwegian Ski Federation and a good day for the Norwegian people, says Røste NRK.

He emphasizes NRK experience producing winter sports for TV .

– With this, we are assured of a very high quality of production and dissemination. In this area, NRK world leader, and it is important for us, says Røste.

Biathlon comes under a separate union, and thus not required by the agreement. NRK has however rights to branch out 2017-18 season.
