(Dagbladet): Bornstein, who is a personal trainer for a number of celebrities, wrote earlier this fall on his blog that a whole banana as a meal is not something she recommends for the vast majority.
There has been a writer and former blogger Linnéa Myhre to react. Monday she published an article in Aftenposten, where she went out against Bornstein.
– I’m sure Helle has a lot of knowledge about the subject, but in isolation, I think it is unfortunate to stand on top of a mountain and shout that the banana is dangerous, elaborated Myhre to Dagbladet Monday.
– Can have adverse consequences
Fitness Guru Kari Jaquesson is critical Born Steins diet tips, and find it very nice that Linnéa Myhre goes out as clearly as she does.
– Uff. I just hope that people have the sense to eat banana when they fancy it, she says to Dagbladet.
– For those who are fragile can statements that it Bornstein comes with few adverse consequences, unfortunately. They are like sponges, always eager for something new. I would not exactly call it good public education.
Jaquesson advise people to listen to the Directorate of Health.
– There you get sensible and factual information about diet.
– Not okay
Fitness and diet expert Jeanette Roede is like Jaquesson happy Myhre debate.
– I think the no it’s fine, she says Born Steins banana initiatives.
– Part of the problem today is that we remove ourselves from a natural diet. Banana is a wonderful fruit with lots of healthy nutrients that we need – and the best type of “fast food”, if you ask me.
Roede points out that she does not recommend that you eat three bananas every day, but rather the banana as a two to three different fruits in one day.
She believes Born Steins advisories are “too special.”
– It can be as ‘healthy’ that it becomes unhealthy when it is so special and removing as much of what food really is. I do not think the way to go is to do it for quibbling, says Roede.
– It’s about being able to get a natural relationship with food, where we eat from all food groups. And it is important that we think everything in moderation.
– High sugar content
Birger Svihus is professor of nutrition at Norwegian University of Life Sciences. He says to Dagbladet that banana certainly is a fruit you should stay away from if you want to lose weight.
– The banana is unique among fruits in two ways: On the one hand, the exceptionally high sugar content. On the other hand, the extraordinarily low content of vitamins and minerals – which are the main reasons why it basically can be nice to have fruit in your diet, says Svihus.
– Therefore, banana something that those who want to lose weight should definitely stay away.
Nutrition professor points out that the banana is “unsustainable food.”
– There is no good reason to eat banana, either nutritional or sustainability purposes. There is a small tragedy that we eat so much banana in Norway.
Compares banana with Coca-Cola
Svihus emphasizes that it is wrong to categorically be against a food, but believes it is problematic that people have the impression that the banana is something one should eat more of.
– You are advised to eat more fruit, but it pointed out that no banana and grapes is exceptionally rich in sugar. The problem is not that Bornstein discourages people eating banana. The problem is advised to eat fruit. It is not good advice for everyone, says the professor.
– To recommend people to eat more banana is in principle the same as recommending people Coca-Cola. It is sugar and water. I have nothing good to say about the banana.
– Actual Data Helle Bornstein has been made aware of the comments of Jaquesson and Roede, and writes the following in an email to Dagbladet:
– Now this is becoming a debate in which I will be conferred on opinions that I simply do not have. This is certainly interesting to sharpen the debate, but what I have done is to point out the relatively high level of sugar in a banana. This is an actual enlightenment, writes Bornstein.
She emphasizes that she also pointed out that the banana has healthy nutrients.
– I’m not at all representative of a unilateral and a special diet. On the contrary! Regarding banana I have repeatedly told that I and my children eat a banana, but like so much else, it should not be too large quantities, type training expert on.
When asked about the feedback she has received by Linnea Myhre debate Monday responds Bornstein following:
– The feedback I have received has been largely positive where people have taken in what I have actually said and written.
