Rapper Kanye West stole the show at the MTV Video Music Awards on Monday night when he announced he would run for president of the United States in 2020.
West was cheered on by his pregnant wife and reality star Kim Kardashian when he took the stage at the awards ceremony.
– I have decided to run for president in 2020, roared West into the microphone at the end of a sprawling speech in which he also admitted to having smoked marijuana before he went on stage.
The surprising message came during his acceptance speech after the West had received lifetime award MTV Video Vanguard.
– I would die for art, for what I believe in and I will not always be polite, said West.
Besides Kanye West as Taylor Swift out to become one of today’s most important names. She took home the award for best popvideo with the song Bad Blood, which she has made along with Kendrick Lamar. Swift was also awarded the prize for best female music video with the song Blank Space.
Nicky Minaj won the award for best hip-hop video with the song Anaconda.
