Friends star speaks out about drug abuse – VG

Matthew Perry (46) has struggled with drug abuse for years. At worst, he drank two half bottles of vodka every day.

In the early 1990s, Matthew Perry super celebrity overnight, thanks to the role of Chandler in “Friends.” But while the popular series rolled across the screen to millions of people, drank Perry large amounts of alcohol.

– I have had many ups and downs during their lifetime. I’ve learned from my mistakes, says the actress in a lengthy interview with the Hollywood Reporter.

Public addictions

Earlier this summer was Perry was awarded a prize of rehabilitation organization Phoenix House, based on the work he is doing to help addicts. The actress has long been open about their problems, and some years ago he established his own rehabilitation project, Perry House.

– It is very difficult to be completely drug free, he said.

The actor has himself received treatment for off drugs her several times. The first time he asked for help, was in 1997 – in the midst of the overwhelming “Friends” -stormen.

– I’m a pretty private person, but I was on a TV program had 30 million viewers. People knew what was happening. My problems were very public, says Perry.
