Worth seeing, though uneven biopic about the gang that revolutionized rap music from … – Adresseavisen

Trondheim is one of the Norwegian cities that weekend show “Straight Outta Compton” un-translated. The film on and around the story of Rapgruppe N.w.a went surprisingly for many the very top of the American cinema list after its premiere last weekend. The film is thus all doomed to become a commercial success.

At the premiere coincides with Dr. Dre’s comeback album “Compton” will probably whet interest. Of the three key figures in N.W.A .; Dr.Dre, Easy-E and Ice Cube, is the Ice Cube represented best in the film. So he is also co-producer, and his son makes the best actor performance in the ensemble, in the role of father (!).

“Straight Outta Compton” takes place in Los Angeles from 1986 and just under 10 years. Without major stars, director F. Gary Gray made a POI biopic where one of history’s main Rapgruppe subjected to treatment that usually becomes deceased or severely aging pop and rock stars to part.

The movie tries to make something of it same with gangster rap and NWA as Ava Duvernay “Selma” made by Martin Luther King Jr: Putting protagonists in a social and political framework. The film succeed best with the first part, especially around the controversies surrounding the band’s most notorious song “Fuck Tha Police” to some of the film’s best scenes.

Almost all menagerie of west coast raplegender dramatized in supporting roles, including Snoop Dogg and Tupac. Paul Giamatti is usable as the sleazy white manager, but he’s even better in similar role in the new biopic about Brian Wilson, “Love & amp; Mercy. ” It is also a better, more profound film.

” straigt Outta Compton “is best as a cultural retrospective of groundbreaking music and era, the portrayal of a band in the rise and fall. Although over two and a half hours, the film rarely in depth, or pokes especially in the problematic aspects of the culture and the waves NWA was part of. For people with respect to music, era or empire Dr. Dre has built thereafter, “Straight Outta Compton” despite obvious weaknesses, rather the point about how it all started.
