After half a year’s leave is news anchor Mah-Rukh Ali (33) back on TV tonight.
– Oxford was an opportunity I had to accept the said news anchor Mah-Rukh Ali as the last six months has studied terrorist organization IS at prestigious universities in the UK.
Mah-Rukh has been a journalist for 15 years. She has worked in TV 2 since the start of the news channel in 2006 and led the first newscast with Terje Svabø (62) on 15 January 2007. In recent years she has news broadcasts 18:30 and 21:00. Before that, she worked for several years in interviewing.
Since January, she along with nine other experienced industry colleagues from around the world studied at Oxford University. She was the only one from Norway who was picked to be with, and thank Freedom of Expression that they supported it.

Studied IS in 6 months.
By Reuters Institute, a leading institute within Media Studies, she has studied terrorist organization IS and the use of propaganda.
– IS is the biggest terrorist threat facing the world. Among the many paradoxes of IS is that they occurred at a time when social media has led to a new openness, but they have established a hermetically sealed terrorist organization, declared journalists as enemies and professionalized propaganda apparatus.

The last six months have Mah-Rukh erected on feltur to Iraq, analyzed IS-propaganda and conducted interviews with bosses in international media and social media on how they relate to IS.
– IS knows how to get attention. They continue to recruit through creating headlines in the media, and using social media to reach.
This autumn gives Mah-Rukh out a book about IS.
It is not the first Once the profiled TV profile take their leave to study. In 2008 she took a year’s leave to study international politics at the University of London.

Experienced TV profile
Ali started TV career as a 21 year old in NRK Dagsnytt and Dagsrevyen in 2003. She was Norway’s first multicultural anchor in a national newscast when she started NRK. When she joined TV2 age of 24, fall 2006, she was the youngest among the anchors in the channel.
She was born and raised in Norway with parents from Pakistan. Already in 1996, 14 years old, she debuted with her first book. “It sure reality” (which is still for sale) is about growing up in Oslo as a Muslim and girl, to feel Norwegian, but be treated differently.
She is mother to daughter Aylin (4 ).
